Not sure whether to see this or not. I watched the original and its sequel when they were shown on C4 last year and I can't help but feel that this was made because the Americans loved the story but couldn't deal with it being Japanese and wanted to reinvent it themselves. (I mean, the original is only about a few years old itself! Not like it was made back in the 60s or 70s!)

I guess if you haven't seen the original, then you might want to see it. But I think I'll stick to the haunting atmosphere of the original.

I recently bought the original on DVD but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Really must do so...

saw all three (ring/2/0 in that order) thought they were good though wasnt as good as i hoped with everyone saying how "damned scary" it was but from what i've been told about the remake its not like the originals and two films have been mixed into one and things have been changed which i feel was unnesessery even with japanese subtitles i got the whole story and everything explained perfectly.

i still *might* go see it.

I never seen the originals but I think this remake is damn good. I was thinking about it for about 2 hours afterwards, couldn't get it out of my mind!

I watched a pre-release version on SVCD last night. (Don't Ask)

Didn't think it was scary at all. The ending seemed to be tacked on the end, and nothihg was really explained. It did have The Shining vibe thou.

Then again the cinema version might be slightly different, but I don't see that they could change it that much and make it that scarey.

I think for a film like this, you HAVE to see it in the cinema, you lose all the impact it has at home I think. Although you might see the TV a lot differently while watching it thou.

Got round to seeing the Japanese version. Nicely creepy and disturbing. Interested enough to want to see the sequel anyhow.
