I really enjoyed this film.
I watched some re-runs of the old series not so long back and I found them much slower and repetetive than I remembered, almost dull. Same with both the older and newer cartoons, which I used to love. I never read the comic.
I just thought I'd lost interest in the concept.
However, whatching the film I was won over by the balance of character/drama, backstory and action. It is a long movie but it all flows together nicely and I never felt bored.
I think it may fail with some audiences because it's been sold as a Hulk movie but to me the point was always Bruce Banner and this film supports that, it's a Bruce movie. A lot of people won't be expecting that.
I liked Bana in the role, he managed to bring the character some depth without seeming to do very much. Many of Banner's rage problems raising from repression.
I liked Connelly as Betty, though she was more distanced from Bruce than I'd expected. I wonder if they'd intended to bring her back for a possible sequel. That's not a spoiler, just an observation, it'd be very easy to go either way.
Elliot's always cool, I especially liked the softer paternal side he brought to a character I'd always seen as quite flatly arrogant.
I missed Rick, no stunt bike action.
I liked the introduction of monster vs. monster in a film that could have easily been all dialogue and military uniforms.
The only problem I'd personally bring up is that many of the entirely CG sequences are going to be hell to watch on a TV screen when it's released. They're quite dark and are generaly low contrast.
