Come on you Irons! (now T21 talk)
If there's any West Ham supporters amongst the two people and a dog still posting (now that's optimism!) how about that job over Birmingham last night? From 18th to 14th. Hope (and false dawns, it's the Irons we're talking about) is back in town.

If there had been content to keep people here then things would probably still at least get acknowledged on here... now though I'd be surprised if there's more than 5 of the "old regulars" looking at this on a monthly basis.

Shit admins for the win.
I can entirely appreciate where you're coming from, but I see it as a vicious circle; can people remember the halcyon days I used to post every bit of tat I found on the interwebs every other day to get some activity? More and more people stopped posting back so I was eventually convinced it wasn't worth the time anymore, as I was basically talking to myself. Wo and Maff put loads of stuff into the TV and Film forums after the relaunch, but the gradual drop in activity was evident then, and besides, it's not like Maff and lil_miss haven't had more important things on their hands lately? (Congratulations to you both!) If you post articles and stuff about new movies 'til you're blue in the face and people still stop responding, are you going to bother?

No matter how nice the site looks it is still in essence a discussion forum. Forum's basically work on "user generated content". Sure Admin's are users but as Alan said there is no way for Admins alone to keep the site active.
In the haydays the only things admins did really was have to moderate the things people posted. Most of us aren't skilled writers that can generate riviting content that people want to read. The site admins were put together based on their technical / design skills and their ability to moderate and organise.
With the start of live journals people no longer seemed to need forums. As why post those general chatty life events (that really is the bread and butter of sites like these) where everyone can read it, being limited by what "we" find family friendly, if you can limit it your own circle of friends and basically do whatever you want?
With sites like Live Journal / Facebook / Twitter / Digg etc doing certain elements of this site bigger and better than we ever could the members eventually stop posting, and admins can only keep up the content for so long and with the social element basically gone, other sites which are aimed at film news or a particular show become a much better source for people to find info about the stuff they are interested in.

Plus the original focus of the forms ended years ago. Buffy's been off the air since 2003, Angel since 2004. Forums still do a fair trade in the age of Friendface, but only when they've got a unique selling point (management speak, sorry), be it a TV show, a subculture like steampunk, or the footie. The community didn't reform around a general "cult TV" banner, which is understandable, there are other cult TV boards out there, and series-specific forums.

And theres the biggest problem.. we've all spoken to each other for nigh on 10 years.. theres very little to say. It's like a barn dance in Norfolk on here.

This site would still be going if the people who ran it had put some thought into it. There's been at least two massive television shows (Heroes & Lost) which if the admins had spent some time writing episode reviews (or frigging stealing them from somewhere else!!) would have 1) Encouraged some conversation amongst the people on her but 2) With enough tagging of posts the site would have ended up high up on google etc and new people would have come along to talk about the eps which would have meant they talked about other stuff. Thats how BUK and in essence this site started.
But if you recognise that the family friendly policy caused an issue then why not get rid of it? Surely a busy board with a bit of 18+ discussion is better than the empty U rated site we currently have?

Still I almost fell off the couch when I came on here tonight and saw more than 2 posts had been made in the last 2 days.. this must be the most posts made in a 48hr period since 2007

We did. We could've done some things better. Likewise, members who were fans of the shows could've posted up Lost and Heroes reviews. Can cut both ways. What's past is past. Looking over it and learning from mistakes is fine, but IMO it's only worth doing to take things forward.
We began as BuffyUK. When that site folded due to issues with the boss-man, we relocated, and relaunched as T21, with a new remit, and ultimately, bespoke forums. That's some adaptation. If we'd gone a different route, maybe it'd have worked out. Or maybe not.
Anyway, I'm not treating this as a post mortem. Doctor Who's back on the air in a few weeks. I'll be watching, now Steven "Coupling" Moffat is head honcho, and am happy to post some reviews up on T21.

Posted: 00:36 Mar 25 2010 Well I hope it brings new members in.. I'd suggest writing some episode guides for the previous seasons before the new season starts and getting them posted. I'd also suggest some alters the search tags for the site and starts bumping up the google hit numbers so that it gets more hits from a search.

Then you need to start keeping the conversation going with the new members.. whoever the admins on here are, if you do all that and then put a couple of hours a night into replying to anc creating threads on here it might just come back to life. I check everyday and I'll do my best to contribute to stuff.
Posted: 23:29 Mar 25 2010 The family friendly policy is in place not because we (the admins) are prudes that don't like swearing. Let's be honest we can swear with the best of them. It's mainly there to ensure that a lot of the unsavoury behaviour (swearing in discussions / singling out people to bitch about them etc) you saw on other boards wouldn't happen on T21 as we simply don't want that. That was not what we wanted T21 to be and that's pretty much a line we wouldn't cross on a matter of principle - and it also would make the site almost impossible to moderate.

As we did know there was a more 18+ "demand" and more and more of us were indeed 18+ we opened "after hours" where people could post more adult content and even relaxed the moderating guidelines a bit on the rest of the forums. (mild swearing / swearing in quotes etc)
This would give people a place to put their 18+ content, keep the main boards relatively clean and still keep the unwanted behaviour at bay. To us this didn't seem like a bad compromise - but you tell me.
Posted: 09:02 Mar 26 2010 Actually we have a "heroes" micro-site..... which never got launched as it was beyond what I could do at the time as I didn't have the tech skills or the time to fix it. The idea was to create micro-sites for certain shows, give that to 2 - 3 people to keep up the content and give it is own board which links into the main site. Just looked at the site and it still looks bloody amazing although it contains lots and lots of error messages
