I would say yes. For me, the film recreated all the imagery of the book in superb detail. Most of it turned out exactly the way I had pictured it when I read the books. It was great!

i love the books, but never got around to seeing the film....
now i'm not so sure i want to, in case my imaginary pictures are completely thrown awayand it doesn't live up to the book

The only thing that stands out that didn't match my original thoughts was the sorting hat. In my mind it shouldn't have talked out loud it should have just communicated with the person wearing it. But maybe that's just me.
The only problem would be how they could portray that on film. I think they did ok considering, lets face it only the hat wearers could hear him when he was whispering
