Star Wars Episode II observations/review

Trailers:
The Time Machine
Spiderman
Minority Report

Sadly no matrix reloaded/revisited teaser trailer

1./ Yes its much much better than Phantom Menace - however you can now understand why ep 1 was as it was.

2./ Yes Anakin is starting to lose it.

3./ Yes Mace Windu and Yoda fighting are superb.

4./ A LOT more action involving lightsabers.

5./ Christopher Lee as usual steals the show

6./ Sadly you dont get to see as much of the jedi academy as you would like.

7./ Yes the Jar Jar Binks character has progessed - but thankfully he only has about 4 scenes fairly early on.

8./ Although Ep 2 is substantially darker than the first outing the humour is there a lot more.

Lucas has delivered the goods, obviously listening to fans who said jar jar sucked, the obi-wan vs jango fett stuff is pure classic star wars stuff and I will be seeing Ep 2 again on sunday.

I agree, I assumed the clones would be the enemy, as they are in the original trilogy.... Kind of ironic that the Jedi commissioned an army that ends up batting for the other side.

I loved this film overall, loved the love story, loved the scenes, laughed at some bits, got frogs in my throat at some bits, held my breath at others. Everything you want in the same film

I especially liked the fact that Boba Fett is Jango's clone, not his son... I wasn't expecting to even see Boba in this film, but it gives an insight into whats coming in his future too.

AotC seemed to very sucessfully begin to make the links with the original trilogy while continuing to surprise me.

Droids can have their memories erased, so I'm guessing that 3PO might have had his erased sometime in the 20 or so years between the "prequels" and the "originals"

Artoo seems to remember being "the property of Obi-Wan Kenobi" yet Obi-Wan "Can't seem to remember ever owning a droid"

If I remember my reading right, in the middle of the fight Obi-Wan *is* filled up with anger..at one point Maul counters one of his strikes and then hits him with a Force attack (the one which knocks him backwards and into the hole) - from what I'm aware Maul was only able to do this because of the anger in Obi-Wan at that point; i.e. he had some dark side in him and Maul was able to turn it against him.

Presumably clinging for dear life over a giant hole will make you rethink things somewhat

Hmmm, to my recollection, it was never stated that the clones were the 'enemy' of the republic in the original trilogy. Just that Obi-Wan and Anakin fought in the 'Clone Wars'. A good example of not to take everything at face value

Anyway, what a fantastic film 'Attack Of The Clones' is, particularly the dark scene with Anakin after he tells Padme of his wiping out of the Tusken tribe. Also loved the final scene of the 'birth', as it were, of the Empire with Palpatine, the Emperor to be, watching the prototype star destroyers taking off accompanied by the 'Imperial March' music.

Already seen it twice and, no doubt, will see it again.

They were NOT prototype Star Destroyers. They were Republic assault ships. They bear a resemblence to the Star Destroyer design, but they are not a Star Destroyer prototype, it is a different craft.

Which Lucas ensured would follow the same basic design pattern as (ie look like) the Star Destroyers in order to bring the technologies of the two trilogies into line.

With Samual Jackson killing Jango, to me, implies old Boba Fett will kill him in the third movie, my prediction... we'll see

Yes, he did, and they are related technologically, they (and the Delta-7) are all made by the same company if i remember right, Kuat Fleet Systems, IIRC.

But it is *not* a prototype Star Destroyer... it's an assault ship that looks similar to a latter piece of technology.

Obi-Wan doesn't actually own Artoo, the Naboo Royal Guard does. I think Artoo is prone to lying if he thinks it will help his mission. Obi-Wan meanwhile is prone to using exact details to avoid having to lie outright (Vader killed your . It's notable that in Star Wars, he referred to Artoo as his "little friend" (if I remember correctly) - that does imply recognition.

Obi-Wan has that whole "Certain point of view" thing going on doesn't he. He never "owned" Artoo.

And nope for a Jedi, Attachment is forbidden and possession is forbidden so I'm guessign a lightsaber and some flowing robes and cool bootsis about it

Kuat Drive Yards is one company and Sienar Design (Later Fleet) Systems (responsible for Dath Maul's Infiltrator from Ep 1) is another.

My info comes from Ep1 and Ep4-6 literature though, so maybe I'm wrong and there's a joint venture between the two for the vehicles in Ep2?

Episode 3 will apparently be 1-2 years after Attack of the Clones. Of course, that could change if Lucas changes his mind.

Clones aren't the enemy in the original trilogy..the Empire is. Stormtroopers are not clones in the original trilogy but guys in armour(According to books cloning was stopped after the Clone Wars).

Also your assumption about the clones being the enemy in the prequels..."You're going to find a great many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view"

In a way the clones are still the enemy..okay they save the jedi at the end of AOTC but who do you think Palpatine is going to use to destroy the Jedi in the future.

The troop transports are not Star Destroyers but the models for those ships are based on the concept art for the original films Star Destroyers..which doesn't make them Star Destroyers but does make them the platform on which Star Destroyers were designed on.

Wobag Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so...

The question of whether the clones were going to be 'good or bad' leads to a broader point...

I alsways assumed, as did most, that in the first trilogy, the 'Empire' would 'take over' the good guys like space nazis...

Lucas has made it clear that the good guys 'turn into' the Empire, slowly, just as Anakin slowly becomes Vader.

So saying that the clones are good or bad is rather a moot point at this stage tho I assume they will be utilised to do increasingly less positive things ans the influence of Palpetine grows wider and wider.

In fact I kind of always asumed it would be clone vs clone, after all, a nuclear war suggests countries using nuclear devices on each other, ditto chemical warfare, etc. So a clone war....
