I think when I said 'prototype Star Destroyers' most people got what I was driving at ie that what became Imperial Star Destroyers were based on the design of the Republic transports. I didn't realise that a comment, that was focusing on such a great scene, would be pedantically pulled apart, on such a trivial aspect, by someone showing off to everyone else about their knowledge of all things Star Wars.

Wow, Wooah, and similar exclamations!
I was like a giggly schoolgirl when I went to the cinema last night, and got sooo excited when 'A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...' came on the screen! Haven't felt that way about a movie in a long time, and I have to say I wasn't in the least bit disappointed.

I thought some bits were funnier than they were meant to be though - did anyone else notice in the scene where Padme was lying on the sand groaning after falling out of the transport, a clone asked her if she was ok and she leapt up saying i'm fine as if nothing had happened! Was quite funny. It was also quite cool how her torn clothing in the execution scene seemed to turn into a carefully tailored top and trousers!

Could anyone tell me why Padme is known by two names? I know she was posing as her own handmaiden in Phantom Menace but is that her real name? I know its not important on the scale of things but I need to know!

I agree, I thought the scene was supposed to conjure future echoes of the Empire, the audience seeing ships that look like Star Destroyers and soldiers that look like Stormtroopers. I don't know much myself about all the technical aspects of the films, I'm just going by what I see in the scene and how it makes me feel.

I've found it all quite entertaining myself. It reminded me of certain characters from Buffy Season 6.

But you're right, that was clearly George Lucas' intention in the film. It's hardly his fault that fans will go into such detail on the subject..

Huh? Her name is Padme Amidala. In Phantom Menace she was a queen, so didn't really get referred to by her first name.

If you were talking in terms of the canon of the films, then the Star Destroyers were, according to all available literature on the subject that i have, much more based on the design of the Delta-7 Aethersprite light interceptor. If you look at the pictures, the resemblence is actually closer than that of the Republic Assault Ships.

If you were talking in terms of the artistic design of the film then the Republic Assault ships were based on the design of the Victory and Imperial class Star Destroyers.

You made a false statement and i corrected you, learn to live with it. I'm sure if i made a false statement about something that you are extremely interested in, you would correct me too. I'm not showing off, because i don't need to. My friends and other people that are interested in this subject know that i have what one might call an extensive knowledge of it, and that is enough for me. Dan is right by saying her name is Padme Amidala. I'll expand on what he said though, so you'll know the backstory

Her birth name is Padme Naberrie, and that was the name she used when she was posing as a hand maiden in The Phantom Menace. Amidala was a diplomatic name given to her when she became the elected Queen of Naboo. When she stepped down from the throne and became Senator for Naboo, she kept the Diplomatic name of Amidala and used it in conjunction with her real name, and as such, she is known as Padme Amidala.

Now ive had a few days to think about it. Ive found this one much more intresting than I first thought, as all the pieces are moving into position. Not up to the original trilogy standard but getting there.

Ill be off too see it again in a few weeks once its quietened down

Clones aren't the enemy in the original trilogy..the Empire is. Stormtroopers are not clones in the original trilogy but guys in armour(According to books cloning was stopped after the Clone Wars).

In a way the clones are still the enemy..okay they save the jedi at the end of AOTC but who do you think Palpatine is going to use to destroy the Jedi in the future.

Not quite sure if you are agreeing with me or not there hon I didn't know the stormtroopers were not clones though, I wonder if that will be changed/made more obvious for the likes of me in Ep3 or not.

maisie - don't think that you're being dim hon, I don't know that much about the technical side of StarWars or even the full story to be honest. I just know they are cool films!

Well my boys are off to see it on Sunday and they are Dead Excited, as I've said they loved EP I so I'm sure they are going to enjoy this one

OK, so I'm not going to be able to write loads as I'm not really up on the Star Wars phenomenon - I've seen all the films, and understand whats going on, but I'm not a die hard fan as such

I went to see Ep 2 last night, and LOVED it ! I thought that the storyline moved along very well. I too was worried that the love story was going to ruin the film...it didn't. I liked the way that the film was split into differnet segments almost.

Seeing Anakin move slowly towrds the dark side was interesting to see. I'm really looking forward to seeing Ep 3 now !!

Ewan McGregor really shone in this movie. I thought that some of his lines were gems ! Especially when they are all strapped to those pillars ready to be executed and Anakin says that they came to rescue him - 'Good Job!'

Yoda and Dooku fighting...LMAO ! That was fantastic ! I want to see more of Yoda fighting !!!

I LOVED this film !!!

Apparently, the millenium falcon was hidden away in there somewhere, I'll try and dig the link out, as there were a load of little extras hidden throughout the film apparently
