COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL!!!!!!!!!
Star Wars Episode II observations/review
Trailers:
The Time Machine
Spiderman
Minority Report
Sadly no matrix reloaded/revisited teaser trailer
1./ Yes its much much better than Phantom Menace - however you can now understand why ep 1 was as it was.
2./ Yes Anakin is starting to lose it.
3./ Yes Mace Windu and Yoda fighting are superb.
4./ A LOT more action involving lightsabers.
5./ Christopher Lee as usual steals the show
6./ Sadly you dont get to see as much of the jedi academy as you would like.
7./ Yes the Jar Jar Binks character has progessed - but thankfully he only has about 4 scenes fairly early on.
8./ Although Ep 2 is substantially darker than the first outing the humour is there a lot more.
Lucas has delivered the goods, obviously listening to fans who said jar jar sucked, the obi-wan vs jango fett stuff is pure classic star wars stuff and I will be seeing Ep 2 again on sunday.
May the force be with you

damn i ahve to see this but my mates won't go, may go by myself, as much as its sad and stuff it may have to be done.
It's not sad to go to the cinema alone. I think it's often the best way to watch a film, you can study it more closely and look for all the cool hidden extras, without worrying if your mates have eaten all your popcorn
Thanks that means a lot! I love scifi/fantasy/cult stuff in general but I don't tend to go into things in as much detail as others. And asking questions can be difficult sometimes! So thanks again.

maisie - don't think that you're being dim hon, I don't know that much about the technical side of StarWars or even the full story to be honest. I just know they are cool films!
On the up-side, at least you know that if you have any questions about the mythos of it all, *somebody* in here will be able to answer it for you!
Okay I'll try to explain it more clearly.

Not quite sure if you are agreeing with me or not there hon I didn't know the stormtroopers were not clones though, I wonder if that will be changed/made more obvious for the likes of me in Ep3 or not.
In Star Wars Ep 4: A New Hope and the other original trilogy movies the stormtroopers are humans(some conscripted from conquered worlds and some who volunteered for military service) and not clones. One way to tell this is in Star Wars Episode 4 when you hear stormtroopers speaking..they all have different voices meaning different people.
In Ep 2 the clones are the army of the republic and wear what will evolve to become stormtrooper armour. I would say that the clones are part of the good guys in Ep 2 as they save the jedi and destroy the droid armys...however come Ep 3 the clone army will be used by Palpatine to cement his power and form the his New Order..The Empire. The clone wars were, from what I've read and what I'd guess, a series of battles using clone armys. These battles took place for a number of reasons..1) Palpatine trying to destroy any opposition, 2) Clones are mentally not very stable...I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that clones eventually would go a bit psychotic(hence the reason cloning armys was stopped) 3) Clones have very little independent thought and therefore will respond to orders from a designated senior officer only..even if those orders are to start killing innocent civilians. By the end of episode 3 I'm guessing that soemthing will be said/done which makes it obvious that stormtroopers are not clones.
The clone wars story is kept very hidden by Lucas and the info I have comes from comics/books etc so he could change it all...Anyway in summary..
Ep 2 - Clones Good
Ep 3 - Some Clones Good, Some Clones Bad
Ep 4-6 - No Clones..only Stormtroopers who can't shoot very well
Dont be daft Spike its dark no one can see you, I go the cinema quite often on my own as I have different tastes to my friends.

Also people don't keep whispering to you if you're on your own! I find except for evening showings the cinema usually has lots of people in there by themselves anyway.
I went to see it last Friday as I was off work anyway, and the local cinema was doing an 11am showing. It was great, no kids, the cinema was half empty, and most of the people who were there were by themselves. (I WAS the only female by themselves, but that's okay!) I normally have no trouble dragging one of my pals to the cinema, even to sci fi, but for some reason they all turned their nose up at the idea of Star Wars.
I thought it was great, and I want to see it again, and if I have to go by myself again I will!

I went and saw it last Friday as I was off work as well. I saw the 12.00 pm showing and it was exactly how you said. Half empty, no kids and lots of peeps on their own.

And I was in the luxury seats smack bang in the middle of the cinema. Brilliant!
I don't mind sitting in there on my own, its jsut theres a really fit bird who sells the tickets and i don't wanna seem like larry no mates gonig in to watch it alone.
well after the fire went out coz the cinema was on fire i finally got to see it. what did i think? good film but not a good star wars film. its still nothing like the originals, ok it did start to really pick up towards the end and its good to see thinggs being put in place to set up for the orginals to take place. but the 1st half of the film jsut didn't keep me that interested and it jsut still wasn't star wars. i prefered it to the phantom menace but i was still some what dissapointed.
Fantastic!!!
I've never had so much fun at the cinema.
From the moment the trailers declared the new Bond movie was called 'Die Another Day' to my lingering regret over the credits that Luke and Leia were not, in fact, conceived of a one-night stand, I was in fits of laughter.
The American propaganda, Anakin's Oedipul complex, dialogue that appeared to be generated by a computer, Christopher Lee standing out as the only person attempting to act... Oh, that I could sit here for the rest of the day and remind you of the beautiful awfulness of it all.
(Yoda, is that a lightsabre under your robe or...? And not the ideal choice for battle cries, methinks.)
Even better, the film was interrupted three times by dust on the projector; and as I sat there, at 1am wondering just how much longer the film could go on, the absurdity of it all was heightened to immeasureable proportions. Got a free ticket for another movie for my troubles.
This is a terrible movie. I'm so glad I went to see it.

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark, were you, by chance, drunk when this occured? I only ask becuase... well your drunk a lot, drunk e-mail, phone calls, lectures... need I go on

You don't like the movie I guess, but you lack taste in any movies so
You sure as hell better save that for me, I loved it, plus I'm your wittle bwother

I was sober, more's the pity. I can only think being drunk would have improved it.
It was a ticket for any movie, and I shall be putting it to less shameful use than that for which the original ticket was purchased. Which almost certainly means no film you would wish to see.

SPIKE: Honey, the movie was so bad it was great.
P.S. Sibling: I can only assume that my birthday card from you will be in Monday's post?
Don't be silly, your birthday's not till July

Duh!
i loved it...
the jedi fight scenes were amazing, the scenery was impressive, alright some of the dialogue was a bit naff but i really loved it.
i can totally see how anakin becomes darth vader, the death of his mother sent him crazy....could it be the death of amidala that sends him over the edge? can't wait for the next one
the purple lightsaber kicked ass, as did Yoda
yikes to anakin losing an arm...the same arm as luke?
one of the things i liked about the way george lucas filmed the films is that you things the character don't. WE all know Palpatine is Darth Sidious but the Jedi don't. Ah the dramatic irony

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only person who doesn't feel that Hayden Christiansen is the next Olivier. Frankly, I found Anakin to be more of a sulky git than a brooding potential menace. His one crack at real darkness - the touching 'I'm a mass murderer' confession - was ruined by his relapse into Kevin the Teenager ("It's not fair!".

I couldn't help wondering if his resentment of Obi-Wan wasn't just because his master never lets him borrow the Starfighter, or stay up late on Friday night.
But American Propaganda? It looked pretty anti-capitalist, anti-military/industrial complex to me. Lucas has always been a fan of dictatorial government deep down, however democratic the trappings, and we saw that here with the strong central authority - Palpatine - achieving results that the whiny senate never would have gone for.
I loved Palpatine and the bureaucrat setting up Jar-Jar with the whole: "Oh; if only there was a Senator with the guts to make me ruler of the universe" spiel, but otherwise the dialogue was pretty uninspired, especially from Yoda, who a parody of himself has become.
Oh, and I suspect he may be fraudulently claiming disability.
Yeh, and Jango Fett was better than Boba, but not by much. Really, it's just relative, because Boba Fett sucked, and Imean really badly.
i agree, i dunno why so many people love him, he was killed by han solo in the msot stupid way, he was a pathetic bounty hunter if you ask me.
