Erm,isn't he a bit short to be Batman? I thought he was meant to be an imposing, intimidating figure... I have to confess I liked Val Kilmer in Batman Forever, but I don't know if he would fit the bill again. Hmmm. How about David Boreanaz?
Anyone else unconvinced?
Taken from peoplenews.com's movie bites section on 24/07/2002:
"Matt Damon is apparently going to be given a choice of playing the Dark Knight or the Man of Steel in Batman vs Superman, the movie that pits the two superheroes against each other. Wolfgang Petersen (The Perfect Storm, Air Force One) has agreed to direct and wants Damon in his cast. 'Matt's an interesting action man and a hell of an actor,' says Petersen, adding that he likes the film's idea. 'It's a clash of the titans. They play off each other so perfectly – Superman is clear, bright, all that is noble and good, and Batman represents the dark, obsessive and vengeful side. It'll make for great drama.' Er, yeah. What he means is it'll make for tremendous action sequences, special effects galore and some sort of sappy Hollywood ending."
So, does anyone else think that this would be the most horrendous peice of miscasting since Richard Harris in Harry Potter?
Matt Damon might just have carried off Spiderman in his younger days, but he's hardly superhero material now.
And as an interesting side line... Who would you like to see as Batman and Superman in this venture (Anyone who says Dean cain gets shot)

Well, definitely agree that Matt Damon would be miscast. In most things, actually.
Personally, I reckon they should get Michael Keaton back as Batman.

Christian Bale is currently being tipped for one of the roles..
Here's what ain'titcool has to say..
Matt Damon, eye candy that he is, would suck at Batman or Superman. He'd probably make a reasonable Jimmy Olsen, but that's about it.
The problem with Keating was that he made a great Bruce Wayne, but a lousy Batman. Kilmer was the opposite way round.
I actually think Bruce Willis would make a reasonable job of Batman (but not sure about Bruce Wayne). Superman, I'm not sure about. No one really springs to mind. I suppose DB would be no more offensive than anyone else.
However, I think Jason Lee should make an appearance as the Joker, but only because I'm obsessed with Jason Lee.
Ooh! Ooh! Sick and perverted thought: If I'm gonna have Matt and Jason for eye candy/lust appeal, lets have Brad Pitt as Superman! Yay!

I honestly can't think of anyone who would be suitable for the Superman role, though. Apart from maybe the young lad from Smallville (I'm afraid I don't know his name) although for obvious reasons he may be too young to carry it off!
They may have to go hunting for an unknown, perhaps?

"Jude Law has beaten competition from Johnny Depp and Colin Farrel for the role of Superman in the forthcoming film Superman versus Batman. Apparently, it was decided that the blue-eyed, blonde-haired Jude would give the Kryptonite-fearing superhero a touch of new man-style vulnerability. Farrel has landed the role of Batman. 'They wanted to get away from the mega-muscled action stars,' revealed our man, 'and add a bit of sensitivity and broodiness to the characters.' The film will be directed by Wolfgang Peterson, the man behind Airforce One, The Perfect Storm and the dark German submarine drama Das Boot."
Who's Colin Farrel anyway????
But i can see Jude Law as Clark Kent - Not too sure how he's fair as Superman himself. I guess i'll find out soon enough

I agree I thought Keating was the definitive Bruce Wayne of the recent Batman films, I didn't think he was that bad as Batman either.
Sounds like a dumb idea to me. The character of Batman, spends equal time perfecting his mind and his body, Superman doesn't have to. So what's with casting blokes who'd crumble if you breathed on them wrong, hopefully the casting director if he has made this terrible mistake, will never work in Hollywood again!!!

Nothing wrong with that, he's a very nice young man. Where's a lewd lip-licking smilie when you need one

Not sure who i would cast, but Matt Damon wouldn't be there, i normally find him a big charisma-free hole on the screen
Matt Damon? Eye candy?? Ok, so maybe I'm not best qualified on the subject, but still..

I never actually saw Kilmer as Batman, as everything I saw about the film told me it sucked, but I've never liked him anyway. What was wrong with Keaton? It's not like any actor has a whole lot to do in the role, and it's the alter-ego that I find important. Case in point - Tobey Maguire was great as Peter Parker, who cares what he was like as Spider-Man, since it was nearly all CGI anyway?

Bruce Willis? Hmm.. DB was rumoured for Batman (seeing as how 'Angel' S1 was littered with references - "And you can count on me, cos I'm the Dark Avenger" ). I did hear Nicolas Cage was tipped for Superman at some point, which I think could've worked.

There should be some law saying that Jason Lee has to make an appearance in every film, although I can only see Jack Nicholson as the Joker myself..

Most recently seen in 'Minority Report' as the investigating agent who got shot. According to IMDB he also appeared in 'Ballykissangel. Jude Law is a good actor, but I really can't see him as Superman, or Johnny Depp for that matter.

Though he was good in the role, I find Jack Nicholson physically wrong for the Joker. Although I'm not sure how important a factor that is: though there are clear phyiscal signposts to characters, different comic book artists can end up rendering very different images.

Still, I was fond of the animated Joker.
Jude and Jonny Depp are way wrong for Superman Colin Farrell maybe. It looks like they are trying to do a Spiderman type casting, the only problem is Peter Parker is meant to be a average guy, Superman well is Superman.

On the Batman front I agree Bruce Willis would make an excellent Batman but a rubbish Bruce Wayne.
Personally I see this film dissapearing into Production Hell.
as a fellow jason lee obsessee, i think he would make a fabulous joker myself
the smile! i can imagine him in the role *nods*
can't imagine jude law as superman though!

I say do Dark Knight Returns as a movie and bring back Keaton ,but thats just me.
I'm not so keen on the bring Keaton back bit but all for Dark Knight Returns, just to see Batman give Superman a good kicking!
I think I've got it Mickael Keaton as Batman cause no-one can pull off the role better than he has. Also Edward Norten as Superman. He looks weedy in some of his films but in others looks like a hard ba****d in others it would be
I only ever liked Matt Damon in Dogma and Clerks animated (and thats coz he cries when they throws an empty soda can at his head)
Jason Lee as the Joker? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yes please
I still think Michael Keaton was the best Batman though.
