Anyone seen 8 Mile and what you think?

As you probably noticed in the charts lately some of the Eminem songs based around the movie 8 mile seem to do pretty good but whats the movie itself like?

Well I saw this movie and I absolutely loved it! The director Curtis Hanson did a terrific job on this one and Eminem proved is not only able of making atleast halfdecent music

(I like it but I know a lot people that don't).

I thought the movie had a strong story that really pulls the viewer into the movie and shows the how life in Detroit is like and its certainly not easy. The city that once promised riches and unlimited possiblities for everyone that moved there, but couldn't make good on this promise and creates a lot of problems because of it.

It really glives you a glimps in what "that world" could be like. Its funny and has a unhealthy dose of strong language, sexuality, some violence and drug use which makes it even better!!!

Ok enough about what I thought what did you think?

I really enjoyed it. Not a lot actually happens, but the interaction of the characters works brilliantly, and I think it works well as a window into that world at that period of time.

Eminem's acting was very believable, but then hardly a stretch playing a character loosly based on yourself. In fact I was slightly disapointed that having stayed in character for the whole movie he just seemed to snap into his Slim Shady alter ego for his last performance. Unless that was supposed to be the birth of that character and I missed the point.

Anyway I don't think you need to be a fan to enjoy the film, and I would recommend it.

Well that was the point where he made it. All this time in the movie they have been working towards this break in his life. His mother for example says: Whats so great thats happening in your life.

Also if you listen to the song (lose yourself) that they played directly after the battle on the credits etc

I personally get the impression it was all pretty much ok

As it was just part of it. This where his 15 minutes of fame..... As this guy was in the public that was looking for new talent, thats why the guy hosting the battles signed him up in the first place against his will.

I had a great time watching it, but it's no cinematic great.

There's some good directing and editing, but towards the end there seemed to be some unnecessary sentimentalism that was out of character and the feel of the film (close ups of Wink being happy for Jimmy, despite the stopping he just got him). Also starting with Jimmy choking and finishing with Papa Doc choking was too neat. But these are minor qualms.

It's gritty; it's empowering, and very darkly funny at times. Not much else to say - oh, cool sound track as well.
