heheheee i'd go watch it.
What a Wonka
Tim Burton is being approached to direct a new version of Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.
I have a lot of affection for the original movie and especially Gene Wilder's clearly psychotic Wonka but if anyone is going to do justice to the book it could be Burton.
A good idea?
Also, Marilyn Manson has said he'd love to play the part of Willy Wonka. Good casting or is there someone else you'd prefer?

The original film is brilliant mainly because of Wilder's performance. It would be very hard to top that and offhand I can't think of an actor that could play the part that way. *If* they were to play it for laughs and make it a more comedy based film then I'd suggest Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock as Wonka. Theres nothing that says Wonka has to be white and it'd be interesting to see Chris Rock dissing some kids as he takes them round the Chocolate Factory. Wonder if there would be CGI Oompa Loompas??
With Tim Burton directing it i doubt they'll be going for comedy and as for Wilder i'd expect it to be slightly different because Roald Dahl was unhappy with Wilder in the film, he wanted someone else to play the part (can't quite remember who) and the only reason the family are letting them make the film is to have it more faithful to how Dahl wanted it.
Roald Dahl wanted Spike Milligan. Make of that what you will.
I think Wilder did a sterling job personally.

I posted my thoughts on thsi somewhere else last week and I can't for the life of me remember where...
I think this could be very interesting as I can see Burton doing the book justice. However, if he does that, then fans of the original film will hate it, If he stick to the format of the film then fans of the book will hate it, so it'll be open for a lot of critisism anyway.
I hope that he does stick to the darker tone of the book and gives charlie the empahsis he deserves (Thats another reason why Dahl hated the film - as he thought too much of the film was about Wonka) And anything that removes the awful singing would be a plus
As for Wilders performance of Wonka... Well yeah, it was a great performance in its self, but he didn't play the character right... Hopefully anyone who has read the book as well as seeing the film will understand what I mean. And I Think Spike Milligan would have been fantastic

Sorry I just had the image of Alan Rickman as Wonka flash through my head and I can't stop laughing
For an actor though....huh, I dunno, Manson would be...interesting? Other than that, how about Jim Carrey? I would *definitely* pay to see Carrey + Burton. Just uh...leave out the musical numbers, eh Tim?
LMFAO

Thats a genius image!
I think Michael Keaton could do a decent job.
Chris Walken is a good idea.
How about Bobby D? Are you talking to me? Are you eating my chocolate?
Alan Cummings?

Tim Burton's Batman is one of my favourite films (I deny the existance of any of the alleged sequels) So I'd probably go see it just to see the boy Burton direct the only true Bruce Wayne again
I'll also state that I thought Gene Wilder did a very good job in the first film of creating a terrifying yet likeable persona. So what did Dahl know anyway
I STILL see Hans Gruber whenever I see Alan Rickman, so unless Bruce Willis is playing Charlie... (Hey there's a glass elevator scene isn't there)
Personally I think Marilyn Manson could probably pull off the roll, but my money's on Colin Farrell, he's in every other film right now

Christopher Walken ()
Funnily enough, in today's Evening Standard was the rumour (stress) that Burton is currently choosing between Christopher Walken and Michael Keaton.

"Who... who are you?"
"I'm Wonka... Did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
LOL
I adored this movie, and the book. Although i'm not too keen on the idea of a remake, especially Tim Burton, just not a fan of his...and keep Jim Carrey away!!
I've been racking my brain for any idea of who would play Wonka but I cant really come up with anything, who would they get to play Charlie? And Grampa Joe!! I'm thinking that wee Jonathan whats his name from Stuart Little.

He's too young to play Grampa Joe surely?

Haley Joel Osmont (sp?) immediately springs to mind...
