Oh. My. God. This must be one of the greatest films I have ever seen due, in part, to that fact that it does exactly what it says on the tin. The first big-screen instalment gave a clue as to what could be expected and this follows the rules exactly. Fun, excitement, action, comedy, stunts, song, dance, silly costumes and sexy ladies are all par for the course and director McG manages to shovel bucket-loads into this film. IÂ’m amazed that this was less than a week long with the amount ofÂ… wellÂ… everything crammed in to it.

ThereÂ’s no point in mentioning the plot as, quite frankly, thatÂ’s not what weÂ’re here for. If you want plot, go to see The Matrix Reloaded as it has plenty to spare. What weÂ’re watching CharlieÂ’s Angels for is comic book-style capers with ballsy women who arenÂ’t afraid to look sexy if the scene demands it. This is the stuff that appeals to men and women, young or old, and you wonÂ’t have time to catch your breath until itÂ’s over. What will these girls get up to next?

All the main actors from the first film are back in the saddle except for Bill Murray who is replaced as Bosley by the hilarious Bernie Mac (don’t worry, this does get explained quite well later on). Diaz still sparkles as the ‘giddy as a schoolgirl’ Natalie, Liu tries on a bit more comedy for size in her role as Alex, while Barrymore just gets naughtier as bad girl Dylan. New to the mix are Demi Moore as sexy ex-Angel, Madison Lee, and Justin Theroux as Dylan’s bad boy ex, Seamus O’Grady. While Moore is utterly fantastic in her role, you can’t help but wonder about Theroux’s dodgy accented Robbie Williams wannabe. Still, he is by far the only bad point of the entire film so we’re not doing too badly.

There are some fantastically classic Angels moments in this movie. The way they can go from being plausible investigators at a crime scene to daring motocross riders in the blink of an eye is what makes this movie so great. There are not many scripts that would get three top actresses to strut their stuff on stage in a lap-dancing bar without fear of losing their thespian integrity, but this is so enjoyable it would have been impossible for them to say no. The story does also delve a little deeper into each Angel’s personal life – Natalie is moving in with Pete, Alex’s father visits, and Dylan’s past catches up with her – but each is covered with a thick topping of comedy so as to ensure things never get too dull and serious.

The screen is littered throughout with references to other Hollywood classics (I spotted Raiders of the Lost Ark, Goldeneye, Terminator, Flashdance, Grease and Terminator 2, to name but a few), and normally this would insinuate a lack of imagination on behalf of the director. The ridiculously named McG, however, seems to have no shortage of ideas and so each homage is merely icing on the cake. In addition to this he gives us a soundtrack that keeps the adrenaline pumping throughout. I, for one, think you can never have enough Prodigy thundering through a gigantic cinema sound system and so it was pant-wettingly good to hear not one, but two of their best tracks this time round.

By the end of this film, I would wager you’d be squealing like a Tellytubby “Again! Again!” whilst bouncing up and down in your seat. Full Throttle never takes itself seriously and that is why it’s such a hit. You’re daft if you miss this!
