He's not *that* bad an actor, he just has no range!
Pirates of the Carribean
Has anyone seen this? If so, what did you think? I loved it, despite seeing it in an authentic cinema atmosphere of stifling heat and stinky pirate smells thanks to some broken air con.
Johnny Depp was ace, but what on earth was Jack Davenport doing in it? He's a terrible actor!

I saw this last night (first time I'm been to the piccies in ages).
Johnny Depp was brilliant as Jack Sparrow, and no doubt has started up his on little franchise. He could be accused of stealing every scene, but quite frankly when he shares them with Orlando Bloom (dull & cardboard), and the utterly appaling Jack Davenport, then more scene stealing the better.
I don't know why I expected Bloom to be a decent hero/side kick as i've only seen him in LOTR, but he cannot act and has no comic timing whatsoever, though undoubtably he had a much harder task when opposite Depp. In 2 years time it'll be Orlando who? once all the LOTR hype has died down.
Davenport should never been allowed near a film camera ever again! (and I thought he was ok in This Life).
I guess most of the brits sucked in this movie (surprised that Mackenzie Crook from the Office, looked awkward playing the one eyed pirate), apart from Keira Knightly who stood up admirable to the excellent Geoffrey Rush on screen.
I enjoyed the one to one swordfighting stuff, though found it hard to get worked up at all the pirate battles. I wasn't sure why anyone would take on a bunch on indestructable pirates?
Still, it was a fairly entertaining couple of hours, mostly due to Depp, and though I havnen't seen any of the other summer blockbusters, I'd have to recommend this pirate flick purely cos it 'does what it says on the tin'.

Saw this tonight. Johnny Depp absolutely stole this film, he rocked big time. Orlando Bloom was okay i suppose. Very enjoyable
Yup, 'tis funny!
And Depp as Jack Sparrow? Inspired! I just love the bit where Davenport calls Sparrow "the worst pirate I've ever met", only to see him nick his ship!

I went to see it the other day and I thought it was great. Keira Knightley is so much better (looking and acting) than in Bend It Like Beckham, and Johnny Depp was good too.
But Keira Knightley
There was something about Orlando Bloom that was not good, he just didn't seem right in the scene at times, or maybe I am just jealous of how good lookin he is. Probably the last one.

Having just seen the film I thought it was fantastic
I saw an interview of Johnny on Jay Leno last night - who could really believe that he turned 40 this year!! Certainly From Hell and Pirates of the Carribean had tremendous appearances from him.
I also saw some behind the scenes talk of Pirates last week (mtv I think). JP praised both Orlando and Kiera for being extreme newcomers to acting and thought they had both done very well.
I don't think Orlando was dull and cardboard (CJL ) Sure he didn't fair well besides Johnny Depp (who could ) but he was cute and well placed as the cutesy boy hero. The earlier scenes of Will & Jack's fights in the barn were far superior to their later interaction during the film though.
