Evening, people!

Anyone (besides me, that is) currently giving a hoot aboot (heh) the Splinter Cell movie that's just been given the go-ahead?

For the uninitiated, the story is typical Tom Clancy fare - which might possibly explains the words "Tom Clancy's..." preceding the titles. It all boils down to a secretive US intelligence program sending your typical hard-as-nails commando type into all your favourite action-movie holiday spots and praying he's enough of a sly git to not get caught.

I'm pretty worried - I'm a huge fan of the games (and the book wasn't all that bad - even though it was essentially "I can't believe it's not Tom Clancy!", so-to-speak) but this sounds... well... sucky.

Peter Berg is tipped with screenplay and the director's chair despite the fact he's had no experience I know of that's worth mentioning.

And the name currently (thankfully just 'supposedly' at this point) associated with the part of protagonist Sam Fisher is truly odd: rumour has it they're after casting Mark Wahlberg to play a gruff 'n' grumpy Black Ops agent with greying temples in his 40s. Considering Fisher was voiced by Richter himself, Mr. Michael Ironside, in the games, this choice, if it's true, just doesn't make much sense. Now, I have nothing against Mark Wahlberg - in fact, he doesn't seem all that bad, but I'd rather go with one of the suggestions I've read in places; like maybe Eric Bana, or even Kurt Russell (remember him in Stargate?).

Anybody else know anything about this? *dons camo paint and disappears into an unobserved vent shaft*
