Yeah i read this. Certainly sounds like they are going for a different take on Venom, especially since Topher is physically very similar to Toby Maguire.

Biggest surprise is that Raimi is using Venom at all as hes always said he wasnt fond of him/it.

Know I'm in a minority here but my favourite's still the first film's Green Goblin; there's just something about the schizophrenic villain that works so well. (As Peter Jackson famously showed.)

Gotta agree - Willem Defoe was one hell of a choice of Ol' Norman, but I can't see Venom working in the film, especially as the guy said to be playing him. Why not stick to the Green Goblin theme with one backup villain, like Sandman, Lizard or maybe Scorpion?
