The Da Vinci Code
In May this year, Ron Howard brings us... The Da Vinci Code. The mass-hit novel by Dan Brown becomes big budget thriller.
Ron Howard directing is good news. If you're worried about who they've got to play your favourite characters, worry no longer. Tom Hanks is playing the lead, with Audrey Tattou, Ian McKellan and Paul Bettany rounding out the cast.

Some of this was filmed just up the road from me in Winchester (at the cathedral to be precise)

Well the novel's convoluted po-faced tosh, but that's an interesting cast (Bettany's a pleasingly understated actor, and Tattou's always worth a watch), and I imagine the film will stripmine the plot to something managable, so might be worth a look.

I saw they released a new trailer and I must say I was very impressed with what I saw. If the lawsuit about the plagarisme doesn't spoil it for everyone this should become an amazing movie

Hate to bring the tone down, but I read in the paper today that an Abbot killed himself after the Da Vinci code made him lose his faith.
Fiction it may be, but it has certianly made a lot of people question 'what if....?'

Posted: 14:21 Mar 22 2006 I haven't got a clue what the Da Vinci code is about, so maybe i'm missing out on the HUGE buzz this book generated, but having read one of Dan Brown's other books recently (Digital Fortress) I was left wondering what the fuss was all about. It was absolute drivel.

I thought it was very entertaining as audio book....... but I like to be read to anyways, very relaxing

Posted: 22:32 Mar 24 2006 Hehe, me too, I like Audio Books (particularly the full unabridged ones) because they're just so damn relaxing. Reading is great. Being read to by someone with a nice speaking voice is just luxury!

I have recently read the book, within 2 days no less. I didn't think I'd like it at all given its religious content, but the 'thriller reader' in me found it a real page turner.
As for the film, I'm looking forward to seeing it but I wonder how long it will be? They surely can't fit *everything* in, so it'll be interesting to see what bits they deemed unworthy.
As for the actors, I think Ian McKellan is a wonderful choice, but I'm not so sure about Tom Hanks. I knew he was cast as Langdon before I read the book, but as I was reading I just couldn't fit the two together, so I'm hoping that bit comes together on screen.
