is it the odds that are supposed to be good with the Trek films?
J.J. Abrams to direct 11th Star Trek film!!
That's right, the Alias and Lost creator is going to produce and direct the 11th Star Trek film.
The film, to be written by Abrams and MI:3 writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and produced by Abrams and fellow Lost creator Damon Lindelof, will center on the early days of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at the Starfleet Academy on Earth and their first outer space adventures.
How cool does this sound?
Trek has been a bit tired lately, but if anybody can renew it's energy, I bet Abrams and Lindelof can.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS this is just too cool and completely unexpected. Bryan Singer had expressed an interest in the next film, but this is even better.
More Spock! More Kirk!
There is a God (or in the case of Trek, a rogue satellite that had evolved to think its god)

Well, personally I don't think it's that cool, purely because I don't like Star Trek I would have thought Abrams is far too cool to do Star Trek! And why are they dredging Trek back up from the ditch?
Nope it's the evens, but I think that rule was broken by Nemesis.

And I always reckoned The Search For Spock was a pretty decent effort. Heck, even the infamous number 5 had some classic moments.
The idea of Kirk and Spock in their Academy days is intriguing, but it does seem a bit like they're trying to recapture lost glory, especially as Shatner & Nemoy aren't going to be starring. (Even CGI couldn't make *that* believable. ) Personally I'd have perferred a fresh break and Nicholas "Kaaaahn!" Meyer back in the director's chair.
Still, with the TV problems, celluoid Trek might be the way to get the franchise going again.

I think they should make a movie based on the Elite Force idea. While I realise that games never come across very well as movies, I think the basic idea is sound and using the concept would be awesome.... I'd love to see the effects of a quantum burst or a tetryon pulse canyon.... I realise I'm so geeky but I don't care... It would be REALLY good....
