Try right-clicking your desktop, going to Appearance, and check to see if the Font Size has been changed somehow.

Cheers but tried that to no avail. Looks like i'll just have large lettering everywhere #sigh#

Don't you just go onto 'view' and then 'text size'? That's what I did when it happened to me.

Right click on your desktop, go to Properties then click on the Settings tag. Go to the box that says 'Screen Area' where there should be an arrow to drag along. Move it towards 'More' and it should decrease the size of everything.
