Podcasting
Anyone into listening to Podcasts? They're a really cool (but simple) idea. They're essentially a subscription to an audio "magazine" over the net. People make a show - some kind of a broadcast, typically a radio show, but they could take the form of an audio blog, as an MP3 or similar file. Well anyone can do that and just dump it on a web page, so what makes this clever? Well you have software that manages "subscriptions" to said shows and downloads them whenever the new ones are created.
So for example I listened to a show called "The Melvin Experience" and really liked it, so it's in my list of subscriptions now and i'll keep listening to the episodes as they come out.
Another good one I listened to last night was a show called "Up The Tree" - some cool tunes on it.
The software i'm using is called Nimiq but there are others, haven't tried em yet.
podcasting.net is a good place to start. I'm new to this, but so far I just copy the "RSS" links from these shows into Nimiq's when I start a "New Subscription".
The best thing about these things is that they're a good way to hear music and views that aren't the typical commercial crap from most radio stations.
