Looks to be to be a very innovative way to get an armache But I guess we'll see how it works in the end
Nintendo Revolution Controller Revealed!
The Tokyo Games Show is underway now and Nintendo has finally revealed the controller for it's 'revolutionary' new console.
The controller is a sleek, Apple-style device that at first glance looks like nothing more than a remote control. However, it's much more than that. It's actually a 'pointer' that operates in a 3d space. It can detect up, down, left, right, forward, back, the whole range of 3d motion, and it's supposed to be very accurate.
The analogy i read was this... imagine putting your hand in a box and the TV knows what you're doing in the box and replicates the movement. This opens up a whole host of new control methods. The examples in the demos Nintendo showed the media mostly involved 'doing' the action that the on-screen character is doing. Swing a sword, cast a fishing line etc.
The controller can also attach an analogue stick for use in the left hand, and the combination between this stick and the precise, 3d mouse style pointer could revolutionise first person shooter control.
See it to believe it

If it's as good as it sounds then... WOW!
when i first saw it i was dubious i have to say. The more i think about it though, and that trailer on IGN that nintendo made showing all the different sorts of games that could be played with the controller like sword fighting and fishing, not to mention shooting etc, it's shaping up to be amazing. Revo-europe.com have quoted a few big dev companies like THQ and EA and Ubisoft as well (not to mention hideo kojima) who all say they are impressed with it, thus basically pledging third party support (which is what the nintendo consoles have been basically lacking since the snes let's face it). All in all i think the rev and the x360 are shaping up to look like very nice pieces of kit.... not too sure about the ps3 i have to say.....

Ancient Chinese proverb say "Nintendo executives cannot live on bread and smart-arsed controllers alone", but I have to say, it does look interesting... *strokes re-developing stubble in pseudo-academic manner*
