Kameo: Elements of Power Review
Kameo: Elements of Power is the latest creation from Rare, the company that brought us Conker's Bad Fur Day, Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie. The game has been in development for a long time, starting on the Gamecube, moving to XBox and finally to the Xbox 360 where it's now been released.
I've just finished the game, so i thought i'd share some impressions.
The game, in a nutshell, follows Kameo, an elf with the magical abilities to control Elemental Warriors, using each of their abilities to help her regain control of the Kingdon from the evil Troll King, Thorn and her hateful sister Kalus.
It's a very cartoony, almost Disney story line, and the game's visual presentation follows that trend. The beautiful graphics are not only highly detailed (especially if you have a HDTV) but bright and vibrant, providing cartoony goodness.
Gameplay wise, Kameo is fairly useless, but the elemental warriors, of which there are 10, are fairly varied with lots of different moves to leverage against the trolls and the other different enemies. Unfortunately the puzzle aspect of the game is never fully explored. The puzzles there are fall fairly flat because they're so easy. This makes the game a very pretty hack-n-slash game, rather than a true Zelda style RPG.
In the end, having finished the game, i'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5. It's a very fun action-adventure, i only wish they'd expanded on the puzzles, giving the game longer life and more brain power.
