press release
Well that's gonna be the death blow for the PS3 in Europe. I wonder if Microsoft knew this as all their ubercool games are planned for around March 2007. With Sony saying that their ps3 is a premium product and will have an expected life cycle of at least 12 years Microsoft will only have to stick to their normal release cycle (5 years for consoles, so in November only 4 years to go) to really make Sony sweat. Seeing that processing power will probably triple or quadrouple by that time and the PS3 will just seem old and slow.
Also seeing their production yields on their chips being so low and the fact that they clocked back on the speed by 10% I'm really wondering how "stable" the end products will be in mass production. That might also be why they aren't releasing in Europe yet (2 year warranty compared to 90 days in the USA) although the hdtv penetration probably plays a bigger role as without hdtv to enjoy blu-ray the PS3 is just an expensive Xbox 360.
