Nintendo and Sony's shows have finished, the dust has settled.
Nintendo had a pretty good show I thought. They showed all their big first party games. Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Metroid Prime 3. They announced Mario Kart. Those are all big, popular games.
Some new controller extensions too. The Wii Zapper, despite the goofy name, looks like it could be a fun addition to shooters on Wii. I'm less confident in the Wii Wheel, debuting with Mario Kart, but we'll see.
They also had a lot to show for non gamers. Wii Fit, a 'game', that ships with a touch sensitive board that can measure your bmi, sense where you are and how you are balancing. It has games where you do aerobics, yoga, push ups, all sorts of stuff to keep fit, and it can track your bmi over weeks and months. I think this will be a big hit with the new crowd.
For me, the biggest game at their show was Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Zelda is a huge franchise for Nintendo, and judging by the videos, and more importantly reviews from Japan, this is an amazing addition to the franchise that makes great use of the DS hardware.
I was less interested in Sony's conference, but they did show some interesting stuff. The new PSP, which is 33% lighter anfd 19% thinner, could make some difference to sales, but without a price cut I don't think it is exactly going to endanger the DS sales. They showed us a lot of games we've seen before, and some we hadn't. New titles like Infamous (similar vain to Crackdown, but darker) look like they could provide the PS3 with some much needed flare.
All in all, I think while it wasn't flashy, and we got no surprises, Microsoft is the winner so far, simply because they have the best lineup of games, and they're all coming this side of christmas.
