2007 was a huge year for gaming, both critically and monetarily. Games such as Halo 3, BioShock, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4 wowed critics and customers aline and the industry is making record profits, much to developers' delight.

So 2007 has passed on and we've welcomed 2008. What can we look forward to?

Devil May Cry 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
The 4th in the series of demon based character-action games from Capcom is set to be a corker. The first game, on the original PlayStation is fondly remember by many (including yours truly) and while 2 wasn't well received, 3 came back a bit. The new, next-gen installment is bigger, flashier and features a new character, Nero, with new weapons and abilities, including the Devil Bringer, a demon arm thingy that can be used in some interesting ways.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PlayStation 3)
One of the biggest franchises going and a staple on PlayStation, Metal Gear Solid from Konami could be integral to the PS3's continuing success. Hideo Kojima has tweaked his baby for 4, with the camoflauge system seeing some changes, and the ability to switch sides in battles to suit your end goal. There's also a first person mode, which seems to be a sticking point for some people. Sure to be a huuuuuge seller.

Too Human (Xbox 360)
Silicon Knights has been making Too Human for a decade. It's a long time coming to be sure and it's had some bumps along the way. After a disastrous e3 showing in 2006, the games reputation took a serious hit - and it was still two years away. Now it's had some more development time, previews indicate that it's a very good, but highly misunderstood game. It's a melding of the RPG and action genres in interesting news ways that some people may not take to. This is likely to be a love-it or hate-it affair.

Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
GTA IV is likely to be the biggest selling game of 2008. Originally slated for fall 2007, Rockstar's premiere franchise is going slightly more realistic this time round. The humour is still there, but visually it's not quite as cartoony. Not much has been revealed about the actual mechanics of gameplay and how they've changed, but we've sure seen some pretty trailers.

Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii))
The Wii's march for unending profit continues as this Nintendo staple franchise brawls it's way into your home. This iteration of Smash Bros. comes with online play (I think for 4 players) and a bevy of characters. Special guests include Sonic the Hedgehog and Solid Snake. Personally I like Pikachu. Pikaaaa!

Mario Kart (Wii)
The other huge Nintendo franchise kidding it's way to us is Mario Kart. The Wii versions brings waggle control andthe vehicle nobody wanted, the motorbike! Mario Kart also promises online play, and is sure to sell buckets.

These are just a few of the anticipated games that i've picked out, but there are of course tons more. Alan Wake, Ninja Gaiden 2 are both slated for Xbox 360, with Gears of War 2 in development but not officially announced. On the PS3 side, Sony have got Little Big Planet and Infamous coming at us. Multiplatform there are games such as Prototype, which takes GTA and Crackdown, merges them together and adds wacky alien powers. Sweet. Nintendo also have Wii Fit on it's way. It's already sold well in Japan and i'm sure it will do here too.

2008 might not match 2007, but it's sure going to be another big gaming year.
