Am I the only one here a little bit reluctant to pay an additional £15 on top of the ticket price to attend the party?

Shouldn't it be included in the price considering the tickets are only available to ticket holders? I mean I'm all for party tickets being sold seperately (like I have for my con) but not to be sold to people who have already forked out the money for a full ticket!

Why should the party be in the event ticket price? As sfx is not a convention it is an event, the only reason that the tickets are open to sfx attendees at the moment is just in case they all sell out and people who are going to sfx and want to go to the party can't go because the tickets will be gone if they open sales up to everyone! This makes complete sense to me and i think that it is totally fair.

It says that any one who has a ticket to go to sfx can buy a ticket to go to the party, where does it say that you can not buy a ticket to the party if you have booked a ticket for sfx? i have read the site and it is very clear to me the situation.

A convention is an Event surely?.

I can see where Jipsters coming from about basically £90 for the Event and a party on Saturday night compared to about £65 for others and 3 parties.

NO, I do not work for them, I just like to actually know as many facts as I can about something before I actually post anywhere, that is common sense! Otherwise misinformation causes rumours that get blown out of proportion, also I am sure that as with a lot of events around now a days, there are always seems to be people out there waiting to knock them, whether for personal gain or not, no fingers pointed, all you have to do is actually read the information on a web site, which a lot of people do not seem to be doing, or send an email to the organisers of an event or even pick up the phone, then any of the queries could be sorted at source instead of idle chatter! People seem to be casually viewing event sites and only picking out things that can be queried or blown out of proportion, when the information is actually there. Any one who actually takes the time to read a site can see it, if not contact the relevant organiser, that is obviously if they have an interest in actually attending an event. There are just to many uninformaed people around now days, who seem to go off half cocked, this is what starts rumours, whether intentional or not and this is what hurts the convention market and in the long ultimately hurts people like us who like to attend them.

Hopefully you can see the sense in that? I go on to message boards to join in chats, or in this case may be to put my 2 pence in to help strighten out a question, if people helped more in life, the world would be a better place to live in wouldn't it? I am sure that I will be slagged off for this posting, but that is what I think anyway!

Going over to the other post, yes, it is an event as any other convention, but what I actually like about it, is that you get FREE entry to the london expo event over the same weekend, which will give us all a lot more guests to meet, which i like to do, also i am sure that there is not another convention in the uk which will has the ability for some one to go to it and have in excess of 500 dealer stalls there, is there? Which you will get with the free entry to london expo.

This might be a new idea to run 2 shows side by side in the uk, but they do it in america to great effect, to be honest the uk could learn a lot from the USA which has had events far longer than we have.

In response to your above posting, I would like to point out that Tangent21 is not affliated with any convention on here, we are a neutral site and we encourage discussion amongst our members because many of them haven't been to conventions before and if you have read through any of the other threads and forums there are places to get to know people and also places to discuss the latest scifi tv shows.

in case of query the staff here always encourage members to contact the relevant boards and egroups for more specific information. This is why each initial post regarding an event basically contains the same information and whilst we never post anything about rumours - if it hasn't been confirmed on a website so that our members can access information for themselves then its as good as a rumour.

Unfortunately though ticket cost does sway a lot of people's minds as you have to remember that not everyone can afford to attend these types of events purely because of costings - after tickets you have hotels, travel to contend with etc. And the age ranges of our members range quite considerably from schoolkids upwards.

Sorry, thefan, I think you misread my email, my only complaint was the fact that you have to buy an additional ticket for ONE party when 'the norm' is that you have it included in the price (this years SFX 'EVENT' had three parties thrown in for the £70 or so you paid) I've already paid £65 for next years SFX Event, I booked a ticket at this years event but I wasn't aware then of the fact parties were not included.

I'm running the A-Team convention next year for those who were curious.

I've been to 3 UK conventions (N2K, Eclipse & SG5) and each of them had FREE party every night, and at most of the parties some of the guests turned up to party with the ordinary people, all at no extra cost. This tends to be the norm at UK conventions. That's why people will balk at paying any extra for something they've had more of for free in the past.

In my past experience a convention like N2K, Eclipse, SG5, has guest talks/Q&A, photo sessions, autograph sessions, access to merchandise sales and parties.
From the advertising, the SFX Event has guest talks/Q&A, photo sessions, autograph sessions, access to merchandise sales and a party.

Tony Head said to me a few weeks after Eclipse and CreepCon (a US convention in Baltimore the same weekend as Eclipse) that he preferred the UK conventions as they were more fun. If the guests and attendees prefer the way UK cons are run, what do you think UK con runners have left to learn from the US?
From reading web-sites, most US conventions (or Events) seem to charge a hell of a lot more than UK conventions for the same (or less) fun and access to guests. If this is what UK convention runners can learn from the US I really hope they don't.
