Bar the 2 companies you have mentioned the only real other way to find out is through the actual travel provider. I'm assuming that would be Virgin. I know GNER don't go that far west. Sorry mate.
Trains back from End Of Days
We are having a nightmare trying to get a train back from End Of Days, we can no longer get a cheap 2 week advance ticket becasue they have not decided if the line is going to be up that day or not. So we may have to buy a ticket on the day which is gonna cost loads. has anyone got a ticket cheap from anywhere? Q jump and the trainline.com have not got them on sale and we wanna at least be able to get soem sorta advance sinle from somewhere, anyone know where?

Spike, I lifted these posts from the Starfury boards (I'm sure the posters won't mind) and it maybe that the SLs are already aware of this. I know SL1 was phoning Virgin al day the other day.

"Sadly, the situation hasn't changed as far as travelling back from Blackpool to London on 5th May. I went to Victoria station this evening on the way home and tried to get tickets, but was told that they still were not on sale and that the computer had not been up-dated since 16th April, so they could not tell me when (or if) tickets for 5th May were going to be on sale. Maybe Virgin trains are getting ready for the strike on 6th and 7th May!"

"Another strike warning folks - according to my paper there is one planned for the 6th May - so if anyone was thinking of going home on the Tuesday, you'd better check the situation."

Gotta love Virgin and Railtrack

I booked my tickets a couple months back on an open return and even then it was hard to get one...think you might've left it a bit late for a bank holiday weekend
well i know we can get back on the day, it'll jsut cost a lot more and may take a lot longer as it'll be some alternative route so i'm not too worried about getting back, just the money
Well if the trains are really such a nuisance then I can see people flying into Stansted www.tangent21.com/it.php?node_id=457&topic_id=4132
Blackpool airport is 6 miles from the Norbreck - not sure if there's a coach from Stansted into London on BHMonday

But we already have our train tickets to Blackpool, Peg.
i booked train tickets to blackpool at the £12.50 single rate but with the faffing about from my travel buddies we missed out on the £12.50 return so on the monday we're coaching it back for £19 each. bit pants but we'll have a giggle and it was our own faults for taking so long.
(worse thing was day after i managed to book everything i found out about the cheap flights to blackpool LOL)

I'm getting ahead of myself in case they suddenly launch a strike or closure of the Monday (like they did to people at SG1 in Nov - when the train station closed) There is such a thing as flying one way in case of emergencies or fear of being stranded in Bpool

Hmmm, I think it'll be too much hassle to fly. As has been pointed out to me, the flight may look cheap but once you add on the extra cost of getting to Stansted (and back) either by taxi or train and then a taxi to the Norbreck (and back), it's not that much cheaper than the train.
If we could get a cheap single train ticket back, we could only get one for £18 now, plus the £12.50 for the ticket we already have, that's almost £30. So, okay, an extra £25 is quite a bit more to pay for an open return but are we going to save that much more getting the plane (once you've factored in the extras I've listed above)?
Plus, the open train ticket is gonna be more flexible. Whereas with the plane ticket, if for some unfortunate reason we miss any of the flights, we're stuffed and will have to pay the full fare again.
It's swings and roundabouts as far as I can see.

Thank God I'm driving
I think that should be:
"Thank God, I'm being driven to Blackpool by Len while I watch DVDs"
Well, in that case......

Errrr actually I was right first time
There may be a change of plan yet........
Anyway, it's still a bugger of a journey. Did it last year for the Pleasure Beach meet and it took 5 and a bit hours and I felt mentally exhausted at the end of it
i booked my train ticket with virgin on the net 3 weeks back.there was only one train on the monday back to Reading.i could get a cheap single going but oming back it would cost me 60 quid single.i got a return for 64 quid.
