Interesting. Do you know who these L3 people are and what background they have at running events. Ive read their info on the site but would like more info as i dont want this to be another Jealous

I don't know anything personally I'm afraid, I happened across the advert on an egroup.

From reading through the forums it appears that this event was defered until July to wait for certain guests to be able to appear (as the event is sponsoring a charity for JRBourne I *assume* this would be the main reason)

There does not seem to be anything specific on which events these were. There are links to both the Canadian gatecon and French Con stargate events on the site with a couple of references to these on the forums.

It is with the deepest regret that Level 3 Conventions Ltd have to inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control, we are forced to cancel our Alternate Universe event, due to take place 23rd - 25th July 2004.

It has recently come to our attention that the former Director for Level3 has been stealing funds from the Company Account. This serious loss of funds, for which Level3 are taking legal action, results in us being unable to afford to run AU.

Level 3 Conventions would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment this will undoubtedly cause.

Ticket holders for AU will be contacted individually and will be refunded in full.

We would like to assure you all that

is under no threat of being cancelled or postponed.

A Director's meeting took place on Friday 11th June to finalize the decision about AU, and it was decided that the only solution available to us was to cancel. This weekend was spent contacting the actors and cancelling the venue before making the announcement public, as we felt this was the appropriate action. This announcement was due for release today. The fact that this information has been leaked before Level3's statement was issued is unfortunate, as we always like to keep our attendees fully informed. We hope this has not made you lose faith in Level3, although we can understand the frustrations. Please feel free to contact any one of us to talk about this further should you have any more questions.

I would also like to thank everyone for their very kind words and support. Never had I hoped to know such an understanding group of people, so thank you very much for that.

I can answer several questions you have asked right now, but please understand that due to the serious legal nature of the prosecution, we are unable to give you any details of the case itself. Needless to say, it is a serious amount of money and while most of AU was already paid for, the remaining money to fly the actors over was taken. We, the Directors, made an executive decision to cancel the event and refund the ticket money to our delegates.

Level3 do keep funds in reserve for such an emergency, and this was thankfully untouchable to the ex-employee in question. We are also endeavouring to transfer some of the guests to the SU con, but because SU is run on its own separate budget, this might mean a change in the support guest line up. We will, of course, inform of this as we go along and ultimately it will be you, the fans, who make the decision on guests we exchange, but please understand that we are still in the process of talking to the actors and cannot give an answer to any trandfer of guests without their approval. It is something we are looking at though, so thank you for that.

As much as it was painful for us to admit this huge breach of trust and responsibility in our company, we knew we had to tell the truth and stand by our decision, which is why we are all here now to 'face the music'. I am overwhelmed by the huge kindness that has been shown to us and incredible understanding.
