Ahh, the justification for squandering my money has never been so great.
Cool guests!
Cool guests!
Thus far we have announced:
DB Woodside (1st UK appearance)
Mark Metcalf (1st UK appearance)
Penny Johnson Jerald
We've just had confirmation of our fourth guest. I was asked early on if this was a Buffy con, a 24 con, or whatever. I said our intentions were to go largely Buffy, but if someone good from another show asked to come along, I wouldn't turn them away. That's what has just happened.
It is my great pleasure to announce CARLOS BERNARD, who plays Tony Almeida in 24. This will mark his first U.K. convention (I think it will be his first ever, but am not 100% certain of that).
I know 24 fans will be happy with this announcement. Buffy fans, never fear - we are still hoping to announce someone else from the Whedonverse.
Stuart
So if you are thinking of booking at the lower price best get in there quick
1) first : what are those early bird booking prices mentionned above ? Is it the £60 W-E ticket ?
Yes, that's the price of the "early bird tickets"
Then what will be the price after ?
Most likely either £65 or £70 depending on additional guest announcements (if we get a guest who costs a lot, but we think is worth getting, then we'll go £70)
And when is the deadline ?
Since we've only just announced Carlos, we extended the deadline to around the middle of next week. Around the 2nd of June, the price will raise (although we PROBABLY won't be hard nosed if a cheque arrives for the lesser amount on the 3rd, given the state of the British Post service.
2) I'm not new with the conventions but I am with those organized by sector 14, so how many guests can we expect? (more or less of course, I know it depends on ppportunities, work commitments and blablabla)
A lot depends on cost of guests - one big name can cost the same as two or three smaller names combined. We are hoping for at least one more. However we might go with more, if ticket sales are good enough - if people want to see more guests they need to support by booking early, so that we know we can afford to take a larger financial committment.
The worst thing about running an event at short notice is getting the word out to people, especially when you've been relatively inactive for a while. So after some discussion, the organisers of Valhalla have decided to offer a kind of incentive scheme to people attending, to get them to spread the word as far and wide as they can (but no posting to groups which don't allow such posts).
Refer a friend
Until the end of June 2004 we are running a "Refer a Friend" promotion. In order to participate you must have referred at least FOUR people to book a weekend adult ticket for Valhalla - from person number FOUR you get a £10 bonus - this can be used as either £10 back off your own registration fee or an autograph from the guests attending.
Example:-
Joe Bloggs refers Person 1 (Joe Bloggs him or herself), Person 2, Person 3 & Person 4. Joe Bloggs would then receive a £10 bonus for Person 4. But.... it will continue for Person 5, Person 6, Person 7 so in effect you the referrer will get a discount of £10 for each and every adult ticket booked from person 4 onwards......
This is a great way of either a) reducing the cost of your own ticket or b) getting extra autographs at the event for free......
Spread the word, refer your friends....
And if you've already booked, fear not - we will back date this for those who've already shown their support. If you've already booked two, three or four tickets when you called or wrote to us, then you have got that many referrals to your name.
You MUST say at the time of booking who referred you!
First off YOU have to book your registration in order to participate. You can't just refer people and not book yourself.

[cheeky]Right so if my calculations are correct, to be interested in this I need at least 11 people to say hubby & I have referred them to breeze the £80 for 2 day tickets or 15 people so we do weekend tickets [/cheeky]
Aha, but *that* doesn't appear clear in the first bit as it makes it sound like you don't have to book for the offer(unless you already have)

Well my calculation works then
So to qualify for a refund on two weekend reg tickets you would need to do the following:-From the fourth person that that says you have referred them you qualify for £10 bonus - therefore you need to find 15 people to book.
ummmm don't follow *that* calculation as days are £40 at the moment and weekend are £60 but it's all theoretical so I'll let you off
If you're looking at day tickets it'll be double
Ignore that idea - the promotion is only for adult weekend tickets as per the guidelines that have been agreed by the committee on the Sector 14 mailing mailing list. Don't shoot the messenger

Just a reminder to you all - if you require a room at the Jarvis Piccadilly in Manchester for the Valhalla event, you MUST book this directly yourself by 23rd June to qualify for the convention rate.
After this date, the hotel will release any rooms not booked. You can still book after this date, but there is no guarantee that you will receive the reduced rate provided by the hotel.
Remember, the hotel will not charge you until the weekend of the event itself.
