Alton Towers - Saturday 31st August 2002
ItÂ’s that time of year again!!
WeÂ’re organising another Alton Towers meet for Saturday 31st August 2002
For those of you who havenÂ’t been before, Alton Towers is a large theme park near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. There's tonnes of rides, shows and gardens and it's suitable for all ages
ItÂ’s a full day out and many of us will be making a weekend of it and staying in a nearby hotel.
The Hotel:
WeÂ’ll be booking rooms in a local hotel for those of you who would like to stay on the Friday and/or Saturday nights.
The hotel is the Holiday Inn Express, Burton-upon-Trent. This is a different venue to last year, however as it is part of the same hotel chain the facilities are pretty much identical. The hotel is situated just off the A38 and thereÂ’s a large pub/restaurant and a McDonalds next door. The hotel are also happy to order in takeaways and provide plates for you to eat them in the hotel breakfast bar!
Hotel Cost:
Single/double/twin/family rooms: £49.00 per room, per night.
Triple rooms (3 adults sharing): £61.50 per room, per night.
Continental breakfast is included in the room price.
Alton Towers Cost:
We will be booking tickets for the park in advance. The cost depends on the numbers going, but is likely to be £16.50 (a significant saving on buying a ticket on the day!).
What to do next:
If you would like to go, or would simply like more info, please post below with your email address and Yvonne will send full details to you in the next day or two
If you donÂ’t post your address you wonÂ’t get the details!

Does anyone know the best way to get to Alton Towers at all?
If you're staying at the hotel then we'll probably all travel to AT in convoy anyway. Although it's in the midle of nowhere it's well signposted. It's getting to the hotel that's the tricky part!
If you click here you can see a map of the area. The hotel is just off the A38, south of Burton upon Trent (at the junction where it says 'Branston'). The motorway on the far right hand side of that map is the M1

I found out that Virgin Trains run a direct service from London Euston to Stoke-On-Trent

The actual hotel is at Burton which is quite a few miles from Stoke - so you'd need someone to pick you up from the station on that option.

I should have the Friday off work so that someone can be at the hotel to help with booking in. DJ Billy or myself will probably be driving back and forth picking people up... or he'll do it while I sit in the hotel lobby eating McDonald's Fries

I've heard about this, I *think* there is a bus service from Stoke railway station that goes to the park, but if you're using the train I'd get to Burton and then rely on the kindness of strange peeps to get you to the hotel.

Just a quick update...
There's still plenty of time to join in. Friday 9th August is the last date for you to get your room and ticket payment to us.
So far there are 29 people confirmed. I know there are a few of you out there who are going but haven't as yet confirmed their room/ticket arrangements with Yvonne. So far confirmed we have:

Can I just say that if people want to ride "Air" then you *must* get your virtual queue as soon as you get to the park. I went today and when we'd finished riding it there was a 2 1/2 hour queue!!!

ok i can't make this for sure now, i was hoping i could if i got some money together, but its my nans 80th birthday and theres a big thing on the sunday so i have to be there for it.

Ohh will have exam results by then... might be the ideal way to celebrate (or drown sorrows) and as such may be able to convince rents to pay...mwahahahahaha!!!!
Only problem would be transport... anyone from the Manchester area planning on going with room to spare?? (I'll breathe in, I promise!)

If you want the money details you need to confirm that you're going. Email me (eve__b@hotmail.com) with your name, real name and which nights you want the hotel for (if applicable) and I'll add you to the list. If you're going to be sharing a room with other people we'll need to know who with (you can change later) so we know what type of room to book for you
