I thought I'd try this on just to see what I thought - and I prefer the one I've finally bought instead (I've only been going back and trying it on ever couple of weeks and now its finally mine )

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Everybody's finding dresses and i can't
After speaking with a number of the female attendees it seems a lot of people have bought red dresses in one shade of the colour or another, so I recommend going for something a bit different to add some more colour to the occasion.

.. Like a dirty rain coat and some lacy underwear...
Thats becoming increasingly realistic as an option for me as the days go by... Only it'll be a lab coat rather than a rain coat!!!

Try charity shops in the richer areas of town, department store bargain basements (a friend of mine got a classic jasper conran designer dress for about £30), and ex-catalogue shops.
Or you can always hire them. There's a number of dress hire websites in the prom club links gallery.

I'm off to the Stratford upon Avon charity shops on Saturday - should be rich pickings there!!
I actually checked out our local hire shop and they wanted £65/70 for just hiring a dress!! This was what finally persuaded me to *buy* one.

I trawled around a load of charity shops first but nothing decent around here. Although a nearly new place in Cambridge had some nice stuff if you are a 10 or 12 !
Am hassling work tomorrow to see if i can get the time off!!! Stay tuned.....
ok abotu getting a tux, if you can get them in birmingham whoch would be easier, can we have details about where to get them from please and also do you think you can go in and get one on the day or would you need to give notice, also then theres the problem of taking it backj as i'd have to leave on the sunday when it'd be closed. its jsut if i get one here i'd need tohire it for like 3 nights whichbwould cost a lot of money.
I cant speak for man's hire shops but with womens, you hire the dress for the whole weekend, not just an evening.
you need about 2 weeks notice to hire it. You can get one last minute but you are less likley to (plus thay have to steam them before you pick them up)

I've just gotten around to looking at tux's and such and there are several places in Birmingham where one can rent formal wear.
The place i've looked at is about 5-10 mins from my house and will rent out jacket and trousers for £25 and with a shirt, tie and cumberbund £40. This is based on picking up on a Thursday and returning on a Monday.
Needless to say I'll be going to that place in the next week or so and trying on tux's til I find the one I like and then reserving it for the Prom.
If you're looking for places in Birmingham but not going to be in Birmingham on the Monday then I suggest that you check that the shop will be open on the Sunday. Otherwise you could always hire one from a shop near home and just bring it with you to the hotel.
If you plan on getting them from Birmingham on the Sat then I suggest that you use www.yell.co.uk or similar and look for either mens wear hire or formal wear hire and call them before hand with your sizes of jacket, shirt and trousers that you need. That means chest & neck size, waist and inside leg. If they need anymore they'll ask you.
If you just turn up at the place on the sat then they might not have anything in your size!!
It's entirely up to you but I'd suggest that hiring one from a place near you would be easier than hiring one over the phone as at least at home you get to try it on and decide on a style and see how it looks on you.

If you take a look at The Prom club links gallery, there's a folder with a number of links to various men's formalwear sites.

Nic, I don't know if you've recieved it but you should have got an email from my brother (Craig) who wants to come along with a couple of mates (Ken and Sarah). Thought I'd post here in case you haven't recieved it. Let me know if there are any problems.
