It just cost my parents well over £1000 for the flights alone...
Is this the same Spike who claimed that a Manchester meet would be too expensive and too far away for him?
But sure! If you're paying

I was thinking about going to Canada later this year actually, but unfortunately nothing came of it.
Where in Canada were you thinking of?

That'll be about £552 each for the flights over there if you go off-peak (depending on exchange rates) each, then there's accommodation, then money to get to the airports either side, then there's money for food etc, then there's money for entertainment.. Feeling flush??
I was thinking of toronto which is only £270 return at this time of year, well november anyway. i nkow it'll be expensive but if its not for another year anyone who may be interested will have time to save.

Only £270? That's okay then...
Okay, then for something similar to the rooms that we stay in for stuff like AT meets is £40 per person per night, then as I said before, you've got the travel costs each side, then spending money etc etc, before you know where you are you're up to like £600 for a week.
Have you won the lottery lately???

In fact I've just gone through one of those rough guide books and the minimum on a budget was £40-50 a day, and with food etc it could easily double that, then of course there's the flights, transport, spending money etc on top.
You'd need a *lot* more than a year to save up for something like that, more like at least 2 years to be able to do it properly (2 or 3 weeks holiday - It's *way* too far to go for only a week).

huh? thats not much, i spend £500 on a holiday to spain spending money not including accomodation and flight. anyway i know it could be expensive for some people but its up to them if they're interested or not.

I would love to go to Canada but at the end of the day - would cost too much money and then who would look after Georgia while I was away that long???????
Who on earth would organise the collection of monies and the booking as well That would be no mean feat in itself

Okay, after doing a little more research (Did you even bother doing that Spike?).. I found out the reason why the flights are cheap.. Basically it'll be cold enough to give brass monkeys frostbite, you really don't want to be going between October - March coz you'll end up knee deep in snow.
Accommodation is pretty expensive as mentioned before, all the guides warn you off going with the hostel type things, and the B&B's aren't much cheaper than the hotels.
I really don't think Canada is a realistic option for a meet.

OOH! I love snow!!!!!!! Snow men and snow angels and snow ball fights, building igloos, ice skating (cant ice skate but i like watching others fall on their butts!), skiing, fit ski blokes, log fires to warm up with....

/me gets excited cause peeps are coming to Canada so I can go to a meet yaayyy
.... Toronto
/me heart sinks
you people get a girl all excited and then talk about Toronto *sigh* way to break a girls heart
I've BEEN to Toronto, TEN years ago (December 90 & April 92) what about here? Just as there's more to England than London, there's more to Canada than "Toronto".
WE do NOT get snow until after my birthday (oct20), in fact last Christmas we didn't have any snow! (disappointing)
And I got all excited for nothing :sniff:
if you *must* have Toronto (purely for monetary reasons) /me shuffles feet, then fiiiiiinnneee okay i just might consider it. It *has* been ten years since I saw Niagara Falls after all (quite an experience i must say)

I went to Canada after university and had a fantastic time doing Quebec and Ottawa in two weeks. It did however cost me £750 but not bad for the amount we fitted in.
