T-Party 2004 - (name not yet disclosed)

As you are probably all aware by now, the annual site party (T-Party) has been held in Birmingham then Sheffield & this year moved back to Birmingham again. The T-Party 2004 will be held in February (as usual), the exact dates will be advised in a few months. You will have more notice of the party this time around as we are starting to plan around July(ish) time.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about which English town it could be hosted by next year? Some things to take into consideration are:

Venue - must be able to hold at least 100 but no more than 200 (not sure we could cope with one bigger than that yet!)
Hotel - Handy if there are cheapish hotels in staggering distance.
Good rail/coach connections - not everyone has a car or can cadge a lift so public transport needs to be good.
Reasonable sized town - so people have things to keep them occupied during the day & the Friday night it would need at the very least a good pub, places to eat, places to shop - it would preferably have a cinema multiplexy thingy/bowling alley.

If anyone has any suggestions then please post up so the staff can have a group huddle & decide who/where/what/when/how & who with

Well I'm just gonna say stuff that other people have said, but hey-ho!

Birmingham was cool and is easy to get to and would be a good place to hold it again (so long as we stay in a different hotel). However it could also be cool to go somewhere different. Manchester is a funky place with loads to do and is very easy to get to (direct train from London, takes about 3 hours). Or indeed anywhere else. Venue is only a minor consideration for a party, I think we've shown in the past that we can have fun pretty much anywhere!

Plugs Manchester..... as now living here, even if I have the kids that weekend falls I'll still be able to get a Baby sitter for the Sat night

I agree with most of the comments that have been made about Birmingham - Its a great town and easy to get to from just about everywhere else in the UK!

Another consideration has to be somewhere that has an international airport fairly close by for all our non UK members who come and see us at the T party

So, I guess that makes a couple of logical choices Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool. Tho' I'm not too sure how easy the last two are to get to from the south via rail.

Blackpool would be pretty cool too (so long as we kept Spike away from the water

)

I still think Birmingham is the best place, but why not come to Cambridge then I won't have to travel very far

There's nothing suitable or cheap enough hotelwise in Cambridge for this sort of thing. I found a place in Peterborough once, but it would really depend on the max numbers.

York would be pretty good, and some of you would probably be able to stay with me and head2head because we'll have houses there, but the nearest airport is Leeds/Bradford and so might be a bit difficult to get to for people who are coming here from other countries. It does have a big bowling place, 3 cinemas, some nightclubs and lots of pubs though

Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham all sound like good ideas, but anywhere that's pretty central and wouldn't be too hard to get to sounds good.

I would say stop with Brum as it rocks as long as Jim (Evil Hotel Nightwatch) isnt there , although if you decide to hold it anywhere else such as Leeds

Manchester ect id be happy, as long as it stays central im sure most people will be.

Nottingham would be on my list too, was looking at a few hotels there previously, a lot of them seem to be too small (people wise) or too expensive unless you don't mind a bus ride into town. More for the fact that a few people would have liked to have gone to Rock City on the Friday night

I would like to go to Edinburgh, but its sjut the journey there tis a bit too far, thats why somewhere in the middle of the country I think is best so its easy for everyone. I thought there was gonna be some sorta of Edinburgh meet sometime too cuz i'd still be up for that if its later in the year.

I thought there was gonna be some sorta of Edinburgh meet sometime too cuz i'd still be up for that if its later in the year.

you can fly up there for dirt cheap. get there soon enough trains can be even cheaper i've gotten a train ticket once for 15 return!

i did start a thread last year for an edinburgh meet while i was still living in scotland but people could only make jan/march time so i gave up on it i didnt wanna compete with the T-Party which was when i first put the idea forward to have it there. why stick to the same city when we could be experiencing different cultures okay yeah we're still in the UK but everywhere here is still different.

im giving up this thread it's no fun trying to convince a hundred people on ya own
