I think Edinburgh is a great idea
T-Party 2004 - (name not yet disclosed)
As you are probably all aware by now, the annual site party (T-Party) has been held in Birmingham then Sheffield & this year moved back to Birmingham again. The T-Party 2004 will be held in February (as usual), the exact dates will be advised in a few months. You will have more notice of the party this time around as we are starting to plan around July(ish) time.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about which English town it could be hosted by next year? Some things to take into consideration are:
If anyone has any suggestions then please post up so the staff can have a group huddle & decide who/where/what/when/how & who with
Thanks for your ideas!
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about which English town it could be hosted by next year? Some things to take into consideration are:
- Venue - must be able to hold at least 100 but no more than 200 (not sure we could cope with one bigger than that yet!)
- Hotel - Handy if there are cheapish hotels in staggering distance.
- Good rail/coach connections - not everyone has a car or can cadge a lift so public transport needs to be good.
- Reasonable sized town - so people have things to keep them occupied during the day & the Friday night it would need at the very least a good pub, places to eat, places to shop - it would preferably have a cinema multiplexy thingy/bowling alley.

Depends where I was nearer the time I suppose, but as I said before Edinburgh sounds fun to me, and it'd give a chance for the more northern people to join in the fun.
See.. the lengths we'll go to get get Cherry to a T-Party
Any other offers/ideas?

If we go to Scotland I'd end up paying someone to drive! Carting a weekend case on a plane or on and off trains isn't going to be easy. I was physically crap when I got dropped off at Sheffield when I had to catch the tram in.
But Notts, Yorks, Brums, Lpool, Cambs, Kent, Essex, London ... all good drivable distances (well not necessarily me driving ) with reasonable train or bus services (and maybe some airports too especially for the techies)

As ironic as it seems, I'm one that would unfortunately be against Scotland. For the people that are actually in London you still have travel to the airport to consider. Sorry :/
I'd just like to add that in addition to Rock City Nottingham also has a Hooters. Culture
Having said that I'm not going next year so discard as required.

Traveling to Edinburgh from London by train takes 4 hrs 20 mins.
Traveling to Edinburgh by plane takes about an hour, but the journey to Heathrow/Gatwick/Stanstead/Luton can also take about an hour, and Edinburgh airport to the city's about 20 mins, then you've got an hour check it time, so all in all it's abot 3.5 hours.
I'd be happy to go to Edinburgh.

The Nottingham girls just don't have it like the ones do in Florida. My bloke & 6 yr old son were in love with our Orlando waitress, lol. I was bought a "Hooters" t-shirt to use as a night shirt 'cos we didn't pack pjs for our over night stay, but as this is a family friendly site I'll leave it at that

I was gonna vote for Nottingham too but I'll go anywhere. Whatever people suggest I'll second it
I liked Brum, nice and easy to get to for everyone. But wouldn't say no to Edinburgh, I love it there. It's a beautiful city and Graham has family there, who we don't get to see very often, so that would be nice
Also something to consider is that if it's in Scotland the licensing laws will let us either run the party later or enable everyone to retire to the pub until the wee hours (Depending on how urgently people need to leave in the following day or two )
Can I just add from a parents point of view and sitter arrangements, central located places may be more of an idea as I can see that travelling from London to Scotland or vice versa could be a problem if your sitter is on a time limit
If it was in Scotland and you rented a venue and supplied your own alcohol the you could have it all night - Pub's shut at 1am here but clubs are open till 3am and in Edinburgh I know a little place just around the corner from Tollcross that opens at 5am

Hmmm, bit of good news/bad news type goings on if I'm still where I am now and we hold it in Edinburgh..
Good News - I can get a flight from Norwich Airport!
Bad News - The flight costs are *from* £198!
The train costs £98 from here too
Methinks I'd better move soonish
