Nah, can't see the sense. Don't object to a piece of temporary art work though. That way they look good, don't date and don't look really odd and out of shape when you're old and wrinkly!

ive had one on the upper arm and one on the lower back. the arm didnt hurt at all but the lower back did, altho not on the part over the spine, more the sides of the back. that did hurt. and the outline hurts more than the colouring in.
if your tempted i'd always recommend either the upper arm, near shoulder for the first one.
i'm planning my 3rd,4th and 5th one now, just gotta find the money. there gonna be smaller than my lower back which is the biggest i'll get,(Ankh with big Angel type wings )
i'd say, think about what you want, something that means alot to you is better than a silly motif, that will date fast.if it means something to you it will be timeless.
go to someone with agood rep, ask peeps with tattoos you like where they got theirs done is agood way.
do be careful they are addictive as you'll see by my list above!!!!
but if you really want one, get it, i'm proud of mine as there my designs and i love em. i also love men with tats there fun to stroke! (the tats that is ...)

Ok I'm so being put off with the lower back being the most painfull that's where Im thinking of having my second one. The one I had on my shoulder didnt hurt (just made me feel faint half way through and she had to stop)

/me wonders of thinking anyone know any tat artists who knock you got first

Just a word of advice (not that I know what I'm talking about), I wouldn't get a tattoo in a place just because that's where it's gonna hurt the least. The pain will go away, but the tattoo will last forever and you'll be stuck with it, wherever it is. I was gonna get one done somewhere as unpainful as possible, but then I read this advice on some tattoo site. Makes sense to me.

a little amount of pain for a life time of pleasure, i never grow tired of admiring my tats, so much so that in a couple of weeks its the calf muscle being etched upon for the gooner !!!!
