Hmmmm since about 8.00pm last night
Various sites - mainly scifi and convention ones
Normal page cannot be found
Erm.... pass..... Dial up 56k I believe
NTL World - Grrrrrrrr

OK, so from 8PM until when? And have you tried the same sites today?
Could you give me a sample site URL?
And unfortunately I cannot access the NTL network, so I can't advise if they are having problems in your area. However, with an URL or IP address I can check the site and see if I can see any congestion.

To check problems on ntl, go to www.ntlworld.com (which is probably your home page if you are on a dial up modem)then under help click on "check server status". All the things on there for today seem to relate to cable modem users though....

I had to ring them in the end and it seems to have been a router problem but we sorted something out and I can access the net again - woohoo!!

Avenger - I couldn't even access their homepage this morning but eventually when I managed I did check server status and it told me nothing.

But at least I'm back up and running 100% again

Most of those error messages and 'page not found' are due to congestion - either from over subscription or network failures. They rarely have anything to do with the computer being used.

I have mentioned this before, but I'll mention it again. I work for a Telecom company (associated with Freeserve) and have access to a lot of kit involved in data networks. If anyone has a problem with internet connections (especially involving Freeserve) then feel free to contact me. If I'm at work I'll do what I can.

LMAO! I have broadband cable on NTL, and we had similar probs early on. Most stuff was fine, but certain sites (not all but around 50% of those I tried), would hang on "Waiting for Reply", then time out. By the time I did get through to NTL the problem had been solved - its happened a couple of times since but not for a long time.

I think NTL seem to have some funny routing issues generally. I have a friend who lives in sweeden who has a VERY fast connection to the net - most of the time I can access his stuff really fast, but occasionally, the connection is really bad, and I will see only about 1K/s for several days at a time. Then it goes away and everything is fine again...very strange.

Okay, was i the only one with Freeserve to have a really bad connection yesterday afternoon?... i kept getting kicked off every couple of minutes.. and MSN just wasn't having any of it... i'm assuming there were server problems? .. but everything is back to normal for now anyway
