Have a great time, GS. Stay safe!
Away for a few days
A bit of a redundant subject title as I haven't really been on the boards that much for the last 3 or 4 weeks (whoever came up with the idea of the Trivia IRC room has a lot to answer for )
Anyway, I will be spending the next 5 five days touring the Peak District and North Wales with some friends on our motorbikes.
Providing I don't impale (sp?) myself in a wall on the Cat & Fiddle run, I should be back with you Tuesday eve/Wednesday morning.

Meant to say yesterday, but the beer was going down a little too well. Have a great time, be good, be careful and be safe.
P.S... I have a very red sunburnt nose, stayed a bit too long in the sunshine, me thinks.

Ummm, well I'm back...
This would infer that I went, which strictly speaking is 100% true. But it wasn't the type of break that told you all about. At T-minus 2 hours, I waved bye-bye to my two-wheeled companion as it disappeared from sight in the back of my mechnic's van
Not one to be deterred, I re-packed my stuff, got in my car and went anyway (just for a shorter duration) - I couldn't think of missing out on a weekend of boozing (ask Gooner, or Mishelisa - they'll probably confirm this!)
Thinking that was all the bad luck out of the way, I wasn't banking on falling down on a pitch-black country road. My souvenir being a left ankle that's about 3 times bigger than it should be (and a couple of shades of purple). Though, in my defence, I was very, very drunk!

A bit of a mystery at the moment, Noid. May be a carburettor problem, but the bottom line is that the engine keeps filling up with petrol, so much so that it wouldn't start. The mechanic worked on it for a few hours on Thursday evening and we got it going. On Friday morning it took about 20 minutes to start and it was running like a dream. However, when the mechnic came back at midday (he was servicing another bike in the same area) we couldn't start it again and he diagnosed the same problem. Though you didn't need to be a mechanic to smell the petrol

ohw, bad news... what happened to yer bike?
I'll just have to wait and see what he finds when he gets to have a closer look at it.

I can confirm that gobstopper is a drunk!!
Ok, a couple of questions:
Is your bike a Suzuki 1200 Bandit?
Is it an import?
A friend of mine had a similar sounding problem on his and I *think* it turned out to be a faulty fuel tap or switch... If I've guessed your bike right I can try & get in touch with him (though his *extremely* jealous fiancee doesn't like us talking) and find out exactly what was wrong?

Yeah, that's too bad. Especially about the bike. I always figure that if there's something wrong with me I'll mend. But you can't be too sure about machinery...
No, it's a Honda CBR600 - normally bullet-proof reliability

That was high on the list of the culprits as far as the mechnic was concerned. However, we did switch the tap off and then disconnect it from the engine and no petrol came out, confirming that it was definitely off. However that wasn't to say that we it was on it was too on, if you get my drift. A new tap is going to be fitted as a matter of course, but until he gets to the carbs, we won't know for sure whether that is a guaranteed fix.

As far as the ankle is concerned, that will mend. I'm mobile which means it can't be too bad. It is something that I have got used to over the years (though I haven't always been squiffy when it occurs). One of those strange physiological flaws which means that I am unlikely to break any bones below my waist (except maybe for a direct impact). The joints are so weak that they will always give in first. I've lost count of the number of strains, sprains and torn ligaments I've had to endure. That's life. I'll hobble along for a few weeks, then it will be back to normal again.
Sorry to hear about your bike and ankle, mate, but glad to see you're okay
