Dunno, but I got Paraguay in the office sweepstake. Flippin' Paraguay! At least we have the goal scoring goalkeeper. Jose Luis Chilavert. I think it's him anyway.
World Cup 2002 - Watch England get stuffed :p
Okay then the World Cup starts tomorrow so who do you think will win, when will England get put out and have you got any money on it?? Or do you hate the World Cup and wish that you didn't have to put up with it??
I stand to win £132 if Portugal win the world cup and beat Brazil in the final.. so heres hoping
Gotta say I don't think England have got much of a chance...A loss to Argentina and draw with Sweden and a win against Nigeria is what they'll come away with but I think Sweden will beat Nigeria and draw with Argentina
So opinions please

I have Russia at work......
I wouldn't say I'm anti-English..more a realist who doesn't listen to the English media which is more or less every newspaper/magazine/television thing about the World Cup.

To be totally blunt I can't see England getting through their group never mind winning the World Cup but the media still hypes the teams chances. Argentina are more or less gaurenteed to top the group so second place will either go to Nigeria, Sweden or England. I can't see England beating Sweden as Ljunberg & Larsson will cause too many problems for the English defence although I do think that game will be a scoring draw...Argentina will take 3 points from England in a hard fought game and Nigeria will probably be beaten by England in another hard fought game...giving England 4 points but unfortunatley Sweden will draw with Argentina giving them 5 points after they beat Nigeria and draw with England.
The reason i don't particulary like the England team is nothing to do with the football. I think David Beckham is easily a legend in the making..20 years from now we'll all be telling our grandkids how good he was in his prime and Scholes and Owen are brilliant players.
However I can tell you now that once the World Cup starts we'll be treated to a series of commentarys where the *English* commentators mention 1966 at every oppurtunity and they'll gasp in awe at other counties actually being able to play football (e.g Nigeria who I think are expected to be the whipping boys of Englands group). Euro 2000 was a prime example of where the media hyped England up to easily win the tournament and couldn't understand how these blokes from Portugal were running rings round Beckham & co.
The flip of the coin is...when England go out will you lot be supporting Ireland if they're still in it?
I'll support Ireland if they're still in it...I'm a quarter Irish, c'mon...they're practically my relations !

That's probably more than most players who have played for Ireland have been!!

Player: Er, yeah, my parents once owned an Irish Setter
Mick McCarthy: You're in!
I once drank a half pint of Guinness, do I qualify??
Plus I can be *way* more aggressive than Roy Keane....

I suffer the unfortunate position that i have Germany in the office sweepstake. i don't wanna support them, but its money innit
As for England divebombing - I've heard far too many people who do consider themselves as England supporters being pessimistic and saying derogatory things. What happened to getting behind your country and hoping they'll do well?
If everybody thought in those terms then there wouldn't be a world cup because half of the teams wouldn't bother showing up for kickoff would they?
I hope England do well and they deserve praise for getting this far in the first place - They are in the World Cup Finals for goodness sake. Look at some of the teams that didn't qualify - Holland for example.
And if England do crash out in the first round then at least we've had three games where we can unite with all those other football supporters out there - even the filthy mags
#we're on the ball, we're on the ball, we're on the ball#
I love the adverts for those with Teddy Sheringham and that bloke at the garage. Made me snigger

Milky, you think we'll beat Nigeria? I'm not that confident.
I have absolutely no idea how well we'll do. I think getting knocked in the second round is a reasonable hope, but going out in the first round isn't impossible. Although, the World Cup is a funny ol' game. The best team rarely wins, and you can never be sure of how things will turn out. That's the beauty and the horror of knock out competitions. Whatever happens I'll be cheering the boys on. And commiserating when the time comes.
As for Ireland, I'll be supporting them whether we qualify or not. After all, Mick McCarthy is a good Yorkshire lad (who told Keane what he should have been told by a Scot years ago). I would have done the same for Scotland if it wasn't for the fact they are totally bereft of any talent and never stood a chance of qualifying...

Then my next bit...I can't beleive Senegal beat France!! Got to say they deserved the win and Doufe looks like an amazing player(Have heard Liverpool are after him). France looked shambolic and I actually now think they'll struggle to qualify..maybe the heat is getting to them? That result has ruined my coupon though and I lost £4 on a bet for France to win 3-0. Also I need France to top their group in another bet...oh woh is me
Isn't Freddie out with a groin injury? (If he needs it massaged..... ) I'll just have to make do oggling Beckham instead (yes I know it's evil and wrong but those piccies of him sun bathing - hubba hubba ).

I'm being positive and think we'll win. My 5 year old told me that if he sleeps in his footie kit the night before it will bring good luck for the team and if that's good enough for him I'll go along with it. He is also insisting on wearing his t-shirt and England pants under his school uniform when England play on school days
Milky, it's not a dig when it's the truth, and you know it. Scotlands not had a flare player since McAllister or Strachan.
Now, lets not start a shaving foam war over this, it'll only lead to shaved eyebrows, and you know it.

I'm so unbelievably nervous bout tomorrow. If they don't win, its gonna put a HUGE downer on the whole jubilee thing. But as my mum says, who gives a rats-behind (censored version ) about the jubilee when we've got a world cup to win!
Gooner: Is Freddie playing tomorrow? I hope not, for England's sake!
Freddie versus 'Thugo' Mills? No contest.
You want be needing him for next season, will you?
