SPIKE - a question - if you are not ready to cope without the 'luxuries' you enjoy now - WHY did you put yourself on the housing list? You are taking up a space in the queue that someone else could have. Did you expect a penthouse flat with jacuzzi, and all bills paid for £25 per week perhaps???

Sorry to sound so cross - but I am a single parent, working full time, with a mortgage, getting stuff all help from the government or my ex-husband - and I HAVE to manage - got no choice - going to the pub isn't on my list of necessities

this was about 5 years ago now i put myself on assuming i'd be a lot better off with a full time job and stuff by the time i was offered a place it was supposed to be an eight year wait. i do plan on moving out when i'm a bit better financially, but i feel if i was to take it i would not be enjoying life what so ever and thats not why i feel we're alive for, we're here to make the most outta it and enjoy ourselves. i never thought i'd be offered a place this soon.

Thing is, Spike, when *are* you going to be ready? At some point you are going to have to bite the bullet and accept that you wno't beable to have as many luxuries or trips down the pub as you do now. It's a harsh fact of life, I'm afraid. We all had to make the jump and it's usually not a smooth transition but more of a painful jolt!

One day you will go from being heavily subsidised by your parents to having to find your own way financially. But, no doubt, your folks, and other family members, will help out with things like furniture or appliances, etc, to ease the burden to begin with. Then it's a case of having to make do.

One suggestion: while waiting for a place, why not beging to buy small items that you will need for your flat? That way, when you do get a place, you'll already have a lot of what you need.

What we're all saying is that you'll have to move out someday and it's gonna take a lot of adjusting financially whether you do it now or three years time. And you *will* have to adjust or get seriously into debt. But, if you do it right, it will make things a lot easier for you.

Anyway, hope some of this helps. And I'm no expert as I don't always heed my own advice but we all learn by doing.

ok our council you get offered 2 places, and if you don't have a good enough reason to refuse them you are put back on the list for 1 year only

I assume they know your financial status? In which case I wouldn't have thought they'd offer you a place they knew you couldn't afford.

Personally, from what I've read, I don't think you're ready to move out on your own. And if that is the case, I would suggest taking your name off the list and letting someone who needs a place move up, as Green Amber said. When you do finally feel ready, and maybe have a better paid job so you can afford your luxuries, you can try again.

Whatever you do, I hope it works out for you

i can't take my name of the list or i'll have to wait another 5 years if not longer as i think the wait is longer now. i would like to move out within the next year to be honest but i jsut need to get a decent enough job and inbetween that time hopefully get stuff such as a computer and also other stuff such as a microwave and blow torch or whatever whcih i will need for moving in and can also use beforehand. oh and no its the 1st place i've been offered but i posted before about i was gonna get offered somewhere soon but that was about 3 months ago i think.
