Does anyone use this service and if they do can they send me an account code to use? I applied for a paid account and was told the code I need will be on my next credit card statement but as I've only just had my last statement it will be a month 'til I get it

You need to be recommended by someone to open an account. That person logs on and is given a code which they can give out to someone else to join.
It's just an online diary. You can find it at www.livejournal.com. I've found a nicer one now at www.deadjournal.com so I'll use that instead

so whats your user name thingy coz i like reading diaries

They found that a lot of people were joining simply so that they could view their friend's "friend only" journals and have somewhere to store icons. Basically, they made it 20 times more complicated to join in the hope that people wouldn't do that any more.
And no, LJ doesn't have any adverts on it I don't think.
I actually found it easier to make my own journal site, once I got some code for a "comments" box, but if you want a journal LJ is pretty popular, followed by Diaryland. Diaryland is easier to use, but doesn't do as many snazzy things.

Ack - have to agree with Kate
The only reason I got LJ was I wanted to read the private posts of my friends (all of my friends apart from Kate use LJ). Of course now about half of my journal is friends only - which means Kate misses out on all the juicy stuff *g*

Sorry, my dopey friend spelt her name wrong when she was setting up her account, so she nicked my 2nd spare activation code to set herself up another journal.
