Well, my main thoughts on the appointment are 'what the heck has it got to do with the government?' Although it's somewhat irrelevant these days, it's long past time for the C of E to be disestablished. From his comments, it looks like he may have been well-picked for the job..

If public figures, and especially religious leaders, don't make such pronouncements, what is the point in them being there? That I happen to agree with what he said about both Iraq and Disney (is there even any doubt about the latter?) obviously helps.

Plus, bonus points for managing to annoy the Sun - who apparently aren't aware that there aren't any known links between Iraq and Bin Laden - obviously.

I saw it on the news, shrugged, and went on with what I was doing.. The commenting on things? - They've a right as much as anyone else to air their views.. *shrug*

I agree with Dan on all points, especially the Sun one - Hurray for the Archbishop!

As a practising memeber of the Church of England, I don't think there will be any instant impact from this appointment. There certainly do seem to be some strange anomalies around his appointment though - like a Roman Catholic Head of the Government agreeing to the appointment of the top cleric of the Church of England - which the reigning monarch is actually head of - weird!

I absolutely agree with his comments on Disney - wish he's encompassed all of the mind bending consumerism that children are subjected to - like McDonalds - masters of the art.

On Iraq (yeah nice one The Scum )

It was unwise for Dr Williams to sign a petition calling war against Iraq immoral and illegal. Yesterday he said: "I would only support military action which the United Nations had called." Where would that leave the many Anglicans who in good conscience judge that mortal danger from Iraq must be countered? Are they to be numbered with the wicked?

I feel they must deal with their conscience in their own way, Dr Williams has his viewpoint - and I agree with him - war/fighting/military action are diametric to the teachings of Jesus in the bible, and he is a follower of Christ. I make him right.
