Eve, I know (or at least I think I do) exactly what you're going through. I haven't been through it for weeks at a time like you, but I have the odd few days where i'm fuzzy, and it can get quite scary, because you start to think "Am I always going to be like this? Is my brain fried forever now?" Well from experience I can tell you it does go away. I agree with other posts that it is probably related to depression, something I have suffered for the past decade and a half.
Getting good sleep is probably the key. I went through a really bad period of a week when I had alcohol poisoning. I didnt eat for three days, after which I was prescribed "Anti-Nausea" pills so that I could keep food down, and I didnt sleep for five days, after which I was prescribed sleeping pills. Not sleeping for five days is something I never want to repeat - I was in that fuzzy dreamworld, but worse, I thought i'd died and gone to hell (literally), and at one point I started to believe that everyone around me wasn't real and that they were made out of cardboard. As you can imagine, that is pretty scary!!!!
Well on that fifth day, I was prescribed the sleeping pills and finally slept, and it was like rebooting my brain, I felt so much better afterwards. I was prescribed a pill called Zopiclone and it completely did the trick! If anything, the pill itself, will continue to make you feel a bit dreamy for a while, as the after-effects last a few hours after you wake, but it does a couple of things:
first it stops you worrying about it (it totally chills you out!), and second, after a few days, you'll probably find that you've gotten good enough sleeps that you're head is sorted out. It promotes a large amount of 'deep sleep' which is bad in large quantities (you need R.E.M. sleep to stay sane), but in the same vain, if you sleep very lightly, and miss on deep sleep, the brain can't repair itself (at least that's what I reckon). I'm a very light sleeper, and probably have less deep sleep, and more dreamy sleep than others - the zopiclone, I think, sorted my head out, because it gave me some badly needed deep sleep. The doctor will only give you a limited prescription anyway, because they know it isn't good for long term use. Anyhoo, I found that drug to be hugely beneficial to me, and having been through plenty of 'mental health' type problems myself, I can sympathise with you but would also say, Its not as bad as it seems right now!
Hope you feel better soon, and trust me, you're brain isn't wrecked, its just having a breather

I agree with what others have said about your dazed feeling being to do with stress/depression - I've been very stressed at work lately and one of the main things I noticed was that I kept getting distracted in the middle of doing something and forgetting to finish it, I'd come back to it hours later still half-done, and I'm normally hyper-organised, so it was a bit scary.
You need to relax and get lots of rest. Without resorting to sleeping pills, it might help you to sleep if you were to cut down on caffeine and alcohol. A milky bedtime drink is supposed to work wonders, or camomile tea. You'll also sleep better if you feel more relaxed generally, for me this involved forcing myself to switch off and do something pleasant - swimming, reading a good book, talking to friends - rather than carrying on stressing, but different things work for different people.
