heck no!!

With Hannah, her toes are her tiggies, breakfast is "bekkie" and her pj's are her "jimmies" for example. If it helps him to understand what you mean then you shouldn't worry about it Once he starts talking himself, then believe me, he'll come out with some weird words himself

Hannah has a habit of engaging you in complete baby-babble and expecting you to understand every single bit of it and when you ask her what she just said, she just gives you a great big "winning smile" type grin

I remember reading something about this in my degree years ago... (feel free to correct or elaborate as it was a while ago!)

From what I recall, the paper was a summary of research done on the way mothers respond and communicate to/withtheir children. The main findings were that *all* mothers use abbreviated language (jim jams etc) and their voices were higher pitched and quieter/softer than their normal voice. They called it 'motherese' (mother-ease).

The thing I found most interesting about the study was that they looked at mothers from *all* over the world, including many different cultures. Its almost like it was an 'inate' response rather than something learned.
