We were sitting in mine and my sister's bedroom at home, my cousin had just gotten engaged when my now hubby turned and looked at me and said "do you want to do that then?".. i know, hardly romantic, but we'd been together for five months then and made it "official" 10 months later on my 20th birthday. We were married two years after that and it's our 11th wedding anniversary on Saturday

Hmmmmm Len and I were sitting on the sofa watching the telly and he just turned round to me and said "Shall we get married then?"

Needless to say I made him get down on one knee and ask me again Bless him....... the poor bloke was cacking himself

11 Months down the line and we're still happy.......

/me wonders how he'll surprise me for our first anniversary next month

well i;'ve not done it yet, but i'll make a big deal out of it. i like the idea of a plane in the sky spelling out will yuo marry me. and i'd have like a big brass band playing something she likes, and i'd then take her to a really nice restaurant where she can then tell me her answer over a jice candle lit dinner, while the band will still be palying all this time to other songs and stuff. and then i'd get barry white to come in and sing 'my first my last my everything' while the band played it in the background.

My fiance and I had been talking about getting married for a long time (we've been together 5 1/2 years now, and we first talked about getting married one day when we'd been together about 2 years). We didn't want a long engagement though, so we decided we wouldn't get engaged until we were ready to start planning the wedding. We talked about it more and more last summer and it seemed to both of us that this autumn would be a good time.

So anyway, we went away for our 5th anniversary in November and I was expecting him to ask me then, but he didn't A few days after that, on our actual anniversary, we went out for a meal, and as we were wlking from the pub where we'd had a drink first to the restaurant I said 'Aren't you going to ask me to marry you this anniversary then?'. He said 'Might be', and I pointed out that he hadn't got long left, and that if he did he knew I'd say yes, didn't he?

We carried on walking through Radcliffe Square (quite a pretty part of Oxford, although it was dark and drizzly, and he turned to me and said 'So, would you want to marry me?', so I said of course I would, then he said 'Will you marry me?' and I said 'Of course' again.

So there you go. Rambling and not very romantic, but it was a pretty special moment for me anyway

One Sunday night when we'd been together for about 18 months, we had a huge fight about something, and I ended up saying to him "I have no idea where this relationship is going and quite frankly I don't care if it goes nowhere after tonight" (we were both very upset). He left my house shortly after that.

On Monday I went to work and told all my mates that we were practically finished. That night, I was sitting eating my tea when the doorbell rang and it was him. I was very surprised, we never used to see each other on a Monday, and all I could think was "at least he's decent enough to come round and tell me to my face that he doesn't want to see me any more". He came in, we made stilted small talk for about 3 minutes, then he said "I've been thinking, we've been seeing each other for a while now, and it's been going okay up until last night..." - I was waiting for the 'but not any more' punchline, when he carried on "and I don't know why we aren't more permanently together and it seems silly that we're not, so please, will you marry me?". I was so busy waiting for the "I don't want to see you any more" I didn't actually realise what he'd asked me for a few minutes

That was 20th January, we were married 6th September (5th anniversary coming up).

We has only been together just over 1 1/2 years, but I was going through a major bad patch. For the first time we were not living in the same place as i had a job down south and he was up here in Newcastle. I had just lost my gran (who I adored) and my mum after a year's battle with lung cancer had just been diagnosed with a secondary tumor, this time on her brain. The fact that all my family are in Gibraltar and I see them once a year did not help either.

I knew that seeing her only daughter get married was the last gift I wanted to give to my mum so I put a 'hypothetical situation' regarding marriage to Matthew. He hyperventilated for a couple of hours and lay on the floor starring at the ceiling. Eventually he got up, went on one knee and proposed to me. It was in my flat in Bedford which is not very romantic but it meant a lot to me.

I used my gran's enegement ring as my own and we were married three months later in Gibraltar. Unfortunatly my mum died 8 weeks before the wedding but I know she was there and she did enjoy helping out organising it before she died.

We have been married for over 4 1/2 years now and are very happy! Just feeling the pressure that all my friends are having babies and maybe we should start thinking about it too!

They all have such wonderfully happy endings - i wish i hadn't posted now cos i'm the odd one out

As i started this thread - spose its about time i posted mine - so buckets at the ready


Was back in the lost journals of history when i was young and in my 20's, and as a surprise I flew my then girlfriend to Paris. We had a wonderful couple of days, then on the Sunday, we were outside MonMarte Cathedral and a beautiful star filled sky. I went down on one knee and pulled out the ring. Asked her to marry me and she said 'yes' - to top it all that Sunday was the 14th February - Valentine's Day.

Unfortunatly, the way my life goes, thinhs didn't go to plan and we split up 2 years later.

So now you all know why i don't celebrate Valentine's anymore
