I've had my braces for 7 months now-teeth are looking better!
Just got back from the orthodentist. Each time I go it hurts less afterwards and I can eat normally quicker.
Anyway, I heard her telling off the girl who went in before me for not wearing her 'elastics'
I REALLY don't want to wear elastics and I don't knoow if I will have to.
Also the college I start next month is very strict and you "can't take time off for doctor's and dentists appointments except in an emergency." Too bad! I have to go every 6 weeks for my brace! I don't see how they can stop me either! At my school I had quite a lot off for having teeth out and brace appointments and they never complained!

lizzieslayer Look for the girl with the broken smile.
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
I'm having my brace started in September, and I'm not looking forward to the pain. Gotta have up to 4 teeth out. Something else which is bothering me is, I hope my bf still likes me!

Lizzieslayer-don't worry! Are you having your teeth out at hospital? I had 4 teeth out at hospital last December. Afterwards I had a sore throat from the tube in my throat and a big bruise on my hand where that injection type thing went in. I could't eat much for a few days.
The brace doesn't hurt when they did it but it did afterwarrds so I took Nurofen. I had lots of soup and icecream as it felt weird and hurt a bit to chew. After a week it was normal.
If your bf really loves you he won't care if you have a brace.
StooThere are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
I must say, it is very odd for a college to be quite that rigid on attendence.. weirdness.. but seeing as it's a regular 6 week thing it's not like it's an unexpected absence, so I'm sure both you and the college can work around it..
Basically they use elastics to give extra pressure to move stubborn teeth, but you have to have special bracket on the teeth to use them, if you haven't got them then I wouldn't worry about it at all. Half the time I never bothered with elastics either, they were forever breaking and just getting in the way, I don't think it made that much difference in the end to be honest.
I wore a brace for a year or so arround theage of 12 because my upper lateral incisors (between the canines and fromt incisors) were missing - the brace moved the teeth either side back to their correct positions because they'd moved in to the empty space, then a bridge was fitted to replace the missing teeth.
I had no trouble with the brace at all, and wouldn't hesitate to reccommend to parents the value of getting a childs teeth straightened early on.
Miss Corrupt That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball!
I am getting my brace in October - and to be honest i'm looking forward to it.
From since I can remember I have had overcrowding with my teeth, and I have always been really conscious of it.
First of all I have to have an elastic that pushes my teeth from behind and that pushes my teeth out, and then after that I am having train tracks to straighten them out.
Don't worry about getting your brace everyone *hugs* most people have been there anyways
Sydney You can lead the whore to culture but you can't make her think!
Even Tom Cruise has got a brace!!! Its nothing to worry about at all.
And as for The College - Like Stoo says - its a prearranged thing that can't be done anyother time. Even my workplace isn't that strict on dental appointments etc
gobstopper Eventually, I'll think of something witty to put here ;-)
I had a plate brace when I was about 9 to straighten one of my front teeth. At that time, it was rare to see (or know) someone who had a brace.
In recent times it's made me think why so many people need to have them?...
Pointless bit of info, but a while back (read early nineties), thre was a band called Whale. The singer in which appears in a couple of vids with Braces,& she lookes sexy as pie.
