Spotted this on the BBC news site:

Want to pick up a weird domain name cheap? This could be your chance, as open season is declared on other people's abandoned dreams of internet glory.
If you ever wanted a guide to the folly of many people's dot.com dreams then look no further than the Deleted Domains website.
This site lets you search through the millions of domain names that people have abandoned because they have now realised that there is no chance it will make their fortune.
At the time of writing Deleted Domains had on file 16,139,249 deleted domain names.

So, for example, if you wanted a new name for your Buffy fansite, the following are now up for grabs again, having once been registered:

www.random.com is a pointless site of random links... what a waste

Must admit, I never thought to see what domains with 'random' in the name had lapsed, I was so busy looking up everyone else. randomactsofchocolateonline.com (on hold since 07-19-02) sounds promising, and randompages.com (DELETED on 07-11-02) will be good if I ever make it to another Nos Night, but I really don't know what to make of randommyass.com (on hold since 07-30-02).
