Toothache is the worst pain ever. Worse than giving birth,
Pain
I've had a right week this week. On Tuesday, I get a toothache which was really bad while I was trying to go to sleep. So, I decided to go take some painkillers for it. On trying to throw the packet of tablets back in the drawer they fell to the floor. And, on going to pick them up, I felt something go in my back and now I have a knackered back!! Still, I thought, at least it made me forget about my tooth for a while...
Anyway, three days later, I still have both the toothache and the back pain, although I did get to see a dentist and it turns out that I just have an infected gum at the back of my mouth and suggested I use some mouthwash to clear it up.
But, it got me to thinking, while I was wincing from the pain in my mouth and back last night, what is the most excruciating pain you've ever experienced in your life? The kind which almost, or does, reduces you to tears and you just want someone to knock you out!

Back pain, had it twice.
Once it came on gradually and i couldnt stand upright, i couldnt straighten my back at all. i had to spent the evening lying on my bed unable even to reach my side table becuase it hurt my back.
My boyfriend at the time though, had some southern comfort, i drank most of the bottle, neet, i was in that much pain! by the time it came to go to sleep i was able to walk, though i had to bend over and suppost myself with my hands on my thighs. i woke up fine, thankfully. must have been some kind of muscle spasom.
the next time i reached down into the bath to put the blug in and felt something go between my shoulder blades.
i couldnt do anything again. i had to keep perfectly still. i could stand, but not move my head or arms else i felt excruciating pain.
with the ample application of ibuprofen, i numed it slightly and it eventually went away.
Oh, and i broke my wrist once, but that didnt hurt too bad once it was put in a cast.
havent had anything quite so bad in the last few years though (touch wood).
Hope you feel better soon

never gone through much pain, when i've stabbed my knee cap and put a chisel through my hand, its seemed bad but its like you have shock and don't feel it. so i'd have to say being kicked, punched or slipping off you saddle onto the bar on you bike and hitting your middle private parts.
Just remembered I had kidney stones once about 5 years ago. That really hurt, but still not as much as toothache - probably 'cos they gave me loads of drugs
Toothache or migraine I'd say are the worst, far worse than busting my hand or sticking test-tubes through fingers which are the only significant physical injuries I've suffered.
The only lieing-awake-all-night-in-agony-wishing-that-codeine-was-stronger pain I've suffered was a consequence of breaking a tooth (on a pringle).

My broken arm. The second where the pain hit just after the I heard the bone crunch where the pain just flooded up my arm and right into my head (thats what it felt like) I couldn't stop crying for four hours after I did that
Back pain, no question for me. I was in so much pain I could not lie down for long , so I would sit up on the computer well into the early hours, much more than usual until I was at the stage of passing out and then climb into bed. Managed to get a little sleep that way. Trying to get up was excrutiatingly painful and when I got to the Oesteopath, he found I had two pairs of locked vertebrae which were the cause. I would not wish that on anyone.
the worse i had was when i had a tooth ache which turned out to be an infection but the pain had spread viciously to my throat and i couldnt swallow or talk (family thought this a blessing) also to my ear which caused me to twitch my head like a dog and to my head which turned into a migraine....all at once, this went on for more then three days i tried everything to help it loads of painkillers all different kinds (you can mis your painkillers as long as they dont all have the same ingrediants) drank whiskey to numb the pain was using bonjela (hey it tastes nice....though not with whiskey ) and in the end the pain got SO bad i swiped one of my mum's morphine patches. when that kicked in as you can imagine iwas high as a kite and unable to use my legs (i had to drag myself across the floor to my pooter lol)
the second worse was when i came back from LA this year i did something to my back while i was over there that the flight and getting home was horrendous then for two weeks after i couldnt move much to get around the house i had to crawl on my hands and knees which was fun, the hopital couldnt figure out what was wrong with my back they kept insisting infection of some sort but tests came up nil.
Just glad a had a few friends to keep me company.

Hope that clears up for you soon, Whistler. I'm on antibiotics this week to clear an infection before getting a wisdom tooth removed next week, which isn't much fun.
Worst pain ever would be a deeply scary thing thats happened to me a couple of times. I get the most enormous, constant pain all around my ribs and back. It feels like i'm clamped in a vice, and my breathing gets a bit constricted too. I went to A&E in the middle of the night and they didnt really know what it was, maybe a water infection i was told. It happened again when i was working away a few weeks ago, it did stop eventually but it lasted for about 6hrs, which was scary as it was much longer and Dan wasn't there. The people at NHS direct and a doctor i spoke to were nice but had no idea what it was.
Really hoping it doesnt come back

I vote for that pain that shoots right up into your eye socket when you eat too much ice cream.
Other than that, teeth and back aren't too much fun, and heartbreak ranks pretty high too

Don't think I've ever had toothache - it certainly doesn't sound like fun.
Each of my most painful experiences have occured while playing cricket (I used to be a pretty useful bowler in my youth )
Twice I have torn muscles in my back (the first ruling me out of my trial for Essex when I was 18). But I have give credit the pain killers, 'cause I really didn't care after a while
I have damaged the ligaments in my left ankle (and when recovery was almost complete, though still on crutches, I managed to fall down a flight of stairs and put myself back 6 weeks!)
Then there's a pulled thigh muscle and a strained tendon in my right elbow (the latter causing that nausiating kind of pain... )
There was one non-self inflicted injury, when a cricket ball (having recently made contact with a bat) hit me square in the chest and broke two of my ribs.
Finally, when I was diagnosed with chronic tendonosis in my right knee, I thought that it would be a good idea to give up!

I love brain freeze i think it's funny coz its self inflicted and only lasts a few seconds so it's not that bad
as for heartbreak that ranks higher then most pain i've felt as its emotional/physical AND mental (and i dont much want to go through it again)
With you on that one EW..
Apppendicitis....spent the night vomiting my stomach lining up(it was yellow) I was in so much pain, pretty out of it. My mate found me and helped me to the doctors as I could hardly walk. Got there and got rushed to hospital where I had appendix removed about 6 hours later.
Easily the worst pain ever and far worse than toothache, broken fingers, broken ribs, tendonitis, torn ligaments(most of my left leg..was quite painful when it happened), cutting 3/4 way through my left index finger with a knife or back pain....Can't think of any other painful things really...a kick in the nether regions always brings tears to your eyes but thankfully not had one of them for a long long time.

Well, Period pain that makes you nearly pass out with pain is pretty nasty, but the worst ive had was waking up crying without the ability to breath properley for the spasms in my ribcage, cos the nerves in my spine were having a contest to see which of them could cause me more agony. it took four hours of intense back massage and 6 ibuprofens to calm it down. i dread the day of it returning. DAMN YOU SPINE!
I had cramp in my calf muscle the other night and it was excruciating!!! I've had it before a few times, but I forgot how painful it was My leg ached for 3 days afterwards. Having said that it does seem extremly mild to how I imagine giving birth would be
Knee ligaments. Felt like something had grabbed hold of my foot and held it while I tried as hard as I could to pull in the opposite direction. Not fun, couldn't stand, couldn't walk properly for ages. Sprained my ankle at the same time which didn't help
Emotional pain is mostly self-inflicted in my case so I've kinda learnt to deal with it (mostly) :s
