Have hotmail started charging?

I have signed up for a new hotmail account today - but it wont let me into my inbox, and when I try and get into it, a page comes up saying "pay Â£19.99" to activate your account, and if I pay then I will never lose my account.

So does that mean I have to pay if I want to get into my inbox? Because I don't want to pay just so I will never lost my account.

I got this page some time ago. I had to stop using the bookmark I was using, log out and log in again from the main page. Worked for me. Not sure, but it seems like a sneaky way to try and get people to pay up. Either that or from now on people have to pay to use it

I think they're trying to get people to sign up to their pay account with extra storage etc. They hide the link for their free service somewhere down the bottom of their sign up page. I think they still do free accounts though.

Gopher Tomato; Fruit or Vegtable?

Could be why they do not seem to do much to combat junk mail as my hotmail inbox keeps on being filled up and going over quota, lots of other people have the same problem (why I all but stopped using Hotmail.
