Humph! I send practically no text messages, while my other half and his mates spend every Saturday afternoon during the football season texting frantically!
SMS - number sent by men and women
One of the partners at work just got a call from a journalist looking for a comment. It seems some recent research shows women send more SMS messages than men.
Anyone care to speculate on the reason?
Unfortunately, I have no idea how big the difference is supposed to be, whether this is for the UK, Europe, globally etc...

i text much more often than i ring people because if i call i might be on for hours about all sorts of stuff and forget what i called them for. So usually I text. Having said that, 305 text messages on last months phone bill - and i think most of those were to people on here!!!!
I used to text so much, £10 every week. Now I'm cutting down and sending from the net more coz I don't have any money! I text FAR too often
If you consider that a text is 10p and therefore 100 texts = £10, i didnt realise i texted so much!
I'm the worlds worst for texting. It's sometimes easier than speaking to someone direct. Things only go horribly wrong when I go text crazy while drunk (especially to ex's)Once you press that button theres no going back!!!!
It's also dangerous to send the text to the wrong person. I've done this now a number of times
Oooh and another thing I never leave private messages in my inbox, cause I've had loads of naughty ones read when my backs been turned, and it's got me into all kinds of trouble and it can also be very embarrasing.
So yeah I'm text crazy!!!

Well, managed to dig some more details up on that research.
It seems, for contract customers, men send 14.93 messages/week, women 21.48/week.
For prepay customers, it's 12.35/week and 15.34/week, respectively.
Also, here's some of the hypotheses from colleagues. Anyone care to guess which one I submitted?
- Because they have more to say?
- gossip...they communicate more
- because we have lots more to gossip about!
- Could it be that girls are more nimble with their fingers?
- I think it's that girls communicate continuously about everything (well known fact!); the key texting time for boys in the UK is later on Friday and Saturday evenings when they've had a couple of beers and are feeling brave enough to txt the ladeeez.....
- Evidence from the German youth market show that in terms of activities the whole communication area has a far higher importance for girls. e.g. telephoning / meeting friends while the boys spend far more time with sports, computer games etc. I would assume this extends into txt messages as well. If needed we would even have some charts on the German youth market.
- Income disparity? Women's average incomes are lower so they use SMS more rather than make calls? Be interesting to know if men use more outgoing call minutes.
- Girls have more "Text-appeal"

I used ot be awful for text messages. I'd rack up something liek 350-400 per month easily. But nowadays it's more like about 100. Just not so much requirement I guess.
I have to admit my average since i got contract was 1600 texts a month thats a lot no wonder my phones always being cut off dont text that much anymore mind, especially since no job.
I send quite a few text messages. But luckily, i get 5 free a day, and then since i registered a £50 voucher they only cost 5p afterwards. That has dramatically reduced the money i'm using. I think in all i spend about £5 a month on my phone which isn't too bad. Although, in the last two weeks in Germany i spent £10 - which was not a good thing
