One could even take the stand point, had she lived she could have continued to do errecable (spelling, sorry) damage to the monarchy, which, though extreme, might have added momento to a republician party to abolish the monarchy. If the UK was suddenly denied it's king or queen, would you could that as significant event?

Maybe. Maybe she would also have found a method for harnessing wind power to a degree that it could replace nuclear and fossil fuels. Maybe the still board kid in the local hospital would have formed the first world government, had we had the technology to save them. Maybe.

Maybe is a lot of things. A good way to judge the significance of an event it is not.

I think her death IS significant, probably not number one, but still important. She died in a car crash. The first of many celebrities to go that way.

Hence my point about her not being the first to die this way. Nor necessarily the most significant of those who did.

As for me suggesting you are a fan of Diana Hapsburg, please reread my post because you will find that I never said or implied that. I can see why you were confused, as I mentioned that you (continually) refer to her as 'Diana' as if she is unique in that moniker, and I also mentioned her fans tendancy to do so. I never said you were one. As far as I'm concern your personal assessment of her worth is not the issue, it is whether people who voted that event the most significant are numptys, which I don't believe you or anyone else on this site has said they agree with.

Also, I never compared Diana Hapsburg (nee Spencer) to Hitler. To explain, you said that we should not speak ill of the dead - I take your argument and take it to the extreme to test it. If your argument is right, then we should not speak ill of Hitler because he is dead. Do you understand now? Either we all leave Hitler alone, or you modify your request to Don't Speak Ill of Dead People I Like.

Finally, to repeat myself, I have at no point said I hate Diana Hapsburg, nor that she is evil. I have offered no comment on her personality because I didn't know her. I object to the obsession that surrounds her death, not the woman herself.
