"newfie" is slang for "newfoundlander" but.... as i see it, the difference between a Newfoundlander and a Newfie is the latter is *sometimes* meant to be derogatory towards us Newfoundlanders. Some have claimed/embraced it and accepted it (if you watch Deep Space 9, kinda like "changelings" have accepted that term, which was meant to be derogatory as well).
