well im impressed.

There is a great movie called Dark City starring Kiefer Sutherland and Rufus Sewell which I'm sure contains some strange beings they refer to as the 'strangers'. Prolly best to check out the IMDb though as I could be talking utter rubbish (I have a v. bad memory).

I can think of no better example than September 11th itself.

After all the planes were forced from the skies above North America, most were diverted to Canada. Most planes were sent to various communities around Newfoundland.

I might as well add that I chose "between friends" because of the documentary that was filmed on the aftermath of sept 11. Even includes a story on a lady here (who i know). The documentary is called A Diary Between Friends. There is a web page but it doesn't load for me and neither does the history channel page that also explains it

The one page I already knew about (tho it didn't show up on google) www.k12.nf.ca/ganderacademy/ ("Stranded Passangers" link). Gander Academy's site has lots of great info and links about the passengers who were stranded there, links include the Gander Connection site (www.theganderconnection.org/) which was started BY the stranded passengers; and I'm sure Lewisporte is in there somewhere too (the plane people that stayed in the Lewisporte school started a scholarship to go towards graduating students from Lewisporte). BTW, I was working during that time, and couldn't get down to Mile 1 stadium (where the plane people were being housed in St. John's). I *so* wanted to go down and help out, even felt guilty about having to work, but I hear they even turned away volunteers as there were too many, so there you go, strangers helping strangers.

Strangers are important in a lot of things, the arrival of a stranger is what stirs the community out of its routine and acts as a catalyst for subsequent events.
